VIRGINIA -- A county police officer shot a pit bull after being charged by the dog.
The Prince George County Police Department stated that the officer responded to the 4000 block of London Road Feb. 22 for a call of a white pit bull chasing people in the neighborhood.
Upon arrival, the officer observed that the pit bull was contained but in the yard. The officer then attempted to make contact with the owner of the dog and exited his vehicle.
Once the officer left his vehicle, the pit bull became aggressive and charged at the officer who then discharged one round and shot the canine.
Police stated that prior to the officer discharging the firearm, the pit bull was in very short distance of the officer.
Animal Control was contacted and the pit bull was taken to Disputanta Animal Hospital for treatment. The dog is still alive, the owner has not been identified or charged at this time.
