Pit bull puppy set on fire near Albany; Scott Cusson Jr and Edward Turner Jr charged

UPDATE TO STORY: New York is doing it right: Scott M. Cusson Jr., 20, who set a dog on fire is going to prison for 1-1/2 years!

NEW YORK -- Two Albany-area men were arrested Thursday after one of the men poured a flammable liquid on a 9-month-old pit bull and lit the dog on fire.

On Feb. 9, Scott Cusson, 19, of Halfmoon, threw a flammable liquid on the puppy and then used matches to light the dog on fire, state police said.

The dog suffered burns to the left side of its face and ear. Cusson faces a felony animal cruelty charge.

Police also charged Edward Turner Jr., 19, of Halfmoon, with knowing about the dog's injuries, but not seeking medical attention until two days later. He was charged with misdemeanor failure to provide sustenance.

The dog was taken by Halfmoon animal control and is being cared for at the Saratoga County Animal Shelter.

Cusson was arraigned in Halfmoon Town Court and sent to the Saratoga County jail. He'll reappear in court on Tuesday.

Turner was issued an appearance ticket to Halfmoon Town Court.
