Pit bulls that killed a small dog in Monroe involved in two past cases

WISCONSIN -- Monroe Police officials say two pit bull terrier mixes who mauled and killed a small dog Monday, were the subject of two, past police calls for aggressive behavior.

Authorities Monday said the ninety pound dogs fatally attacked a Shih Tzu Bichon mix "Buddy" on 7th Street, and were running free at the time.  Authorities also said the dog's owner Lance Beutel had been citing for allowing the animals to be at large in August 2013, when the dogs attacked, but did not kill, another dog.

Chief Frederick Kelley tells 27 News police officers also responded to a call involving the dogs Oct. 3, 2012.  Kelley said the dogs were unleashed and pursuing a small dog, but an attack was averted.

Kelley says the small dog's owner did not wish to press charges against Beutel, and a warning was issued to Beutel instead.

Kelley says the dogs were transferred Tuesday from the owner's home to the Green County Humane Society.

Kelley says a court hearing will be scheduled to determine the fate of the animals.  He says no decision has been made on any citations involving Beutel.

"I think the dogs need to be euthanized,"  Donna Buehler says of the pit bull mixes that attacked her small dog Buddy.  "I'm just very afraid that it's going to happen again,"  Buehler tells 27 News.
