The ranch, near Keefeton, is owned by out-of-state cattlemen who paid Fulton to care for the cows.
“This is going to cost them at least $400,000,” he said. “Probably more.”
At least 50 cows are already dead. Officials are still counting and arranging for care for the survivors.
UPDATE:
There are now 55 dead cows.
The owners of the cattle, Brandon Nelson, Bob Dey, Tim Roberts, came down from Iowa today to take the cattle to Stigler after Fulton had been avoiding them for weeks, saying he was in New Mexico due to a family death.
When they arrived, they saw Fulton watching them from across the road.
Fulton may also face charges for a frail and sickly dog on the property, according to Sheriff Charles Pearson. Fulton is in a house next to the ranch right now.
“There are dead animals in their only water supply,” Pearson said. “They won’t drink the water.”
