Shayna Tabachneck, 40, was charged in July under Buster's Law after neighbors complained of a strong odor coming from her home and noticed dogs and cats had disappeared, State Police said at the time of her arrest.
Saratoga County Court Judge James Murphy sentenced Tabachneck to six months in prison and five years probation for her guilty plea to felony aggravated cruelty to animals.
District Attorney Karen Heggen said Tabachneck "intentionally caused serious physical injury to Fendy, a female pit bull." Tabachneck acknowledged her conduct resulted in Fendy's death, including failing to provide food, water and proper veterinary care.
Troopers who responded to Malta Gardens Park on Route 9 found two dead dogs in garbage bags in a shed behind the residence. A third dead dog was found in a bedroom as was an emaciated male pit bull.
Tabachneck initially was charged with two felony counts of aggravated cruelty to animals and one count each of improper disposal of a dead animal, a violation, and failure to provide sustenance to an animal and endangering the welfare of a child, both misdemeanors.
Five cats who were in fair health were seized, State Police said.
Note: She had also been charged with endangering the welfare of a child as her 14-year-old son was living in the home with her and the animals.
