UPDATED-- Texas: Elizabeth Barraza Botello, 40, arrested for cruelty to animals; accused of leaving her pets in apartment to die

TEXAS -- A woman was arrested Sunday for allegedly failing to provide proper care to three animals, according to Laredo police.

Elizabeth Botello Barraza (aka Elizabeth Barraza Botello), 40, was charged with animal cruelty, failure to provide care on a case dating back to April 4th when police responded to an apartment complex in the 2700 block of Norton Street south of Laredo.

The landlord told police that Barraza was in process of being evicted and had abandoned a cat and two dogs inside the apartment and that the animals were emaciated and starving.

Barraza did not return phone calls or text messages, according to police.

Authorities said a dog "showed significant signs of neglect. He was so thin that he could see his bones through his stomach area."
