Oklahoma: Warrant issued for Andrew Martin, 27, who is accused of killing a puppy in front of children

OKLAHOMA -- A Roland man is wanted on a felony warrant for animal cruelty after he allegedly shot and killed a puppy in front of four children.

At the conclusion of an investigation, Andrew Lee Martin, 27, a felony warrant was issued for his arrest, said Sequoyah County Sheriff's Department investigator Cindy Smith. The warrant was issued May 26.

The incident happened north of Muldrow on County Road 1090 about 11:30 p.m. May 15, said Sequoyah County Sheriff, Ron Lockhart.

A probable cause affidavit stated that four girls, who witnessed the incident, had told a Sequoyah County Sheriff’s Office deputy that Martin was about to kill multiple puppies, which were being kept in a bathroom. Martin had told them to pick two puppies, “and the rest would be gone (killed).”

At first the girls thought he was joking, but then realized he meant it when he shot one of the puppies in the head with a pellet gun. Three of the girls then ran into the bathroom and locked themselves in the bathroom with the puppies to protect them while the fourth girl called 911, the affidavit stated.

By the time Sheriff's Deputy Jeff Neighbors arrived at the house, Martin had left the area.

According to the affidavit, the deputy spoke with the mother of one of the minors and asked if Martin was at the house. She said he was not and allowed the deputy to search the house, barn and the surrounding areas, but they did not find Martin.

The deputy then went to the bathroom to take pictures of the scene, but the deceased puppy was missing, the affidavit stated. The blanket the girls had used to cover the dead puppy was still in the bathroom with blood on it. They don't know if Martin had been hiding in the house or returned to the house to remove the dead puppy or if someone else at the residence took and hid the puppy's body.

Anyone with information regarding Martin is encouraged to call the Sheriff's Department at (918) 775-9155.
