Ohio: Collin Macaulay, 19, arrested after neighbors heard him beating his puppy

OHIO -- Police arrested a Cortland man Monday after they said he beat his 6-month-old puppy.

Collin Macaulay, 19, faces a felony charge of animal cruelty, two felony counts of intimidation of a witness and two misdemeanor counts of menacing.

Neighbors called police, saying they heard Macaulay beating his dog.

Officers said the Pit Bull mix had redness, marks and swelling on her face and head.

They said Macaulay became very angry and would not cooperate with police. They left, awaiting results of the investigation.

The same neighbors called police again after they said Macaulay pounded on their door and demanded to talk with them.

They didn’t answer the door and told officers that he threatened to “get even” with them for calling police. The neighbors also said Macaulay screamed, “You’ll pay! You’re responsible for this and I will make your life a living h***!”

The Trumbull County Dog Warden and Animal Cruelty Task Force took the puppy into their care to be looked at by a veterinarian.

The vet later found that the puppy suffered from blunt face trauma, causing dried blood in the ear canal, two fractured teeth, swelling on her muzzle, and possible sinus and optical socket fractures.

Macaulay’s animal cruelty charge, prohibitions concerning companion animals, is based off of a new law recently passed in the state this year called “Goddard’s Law.”

He is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
