Florida: Woman keeps getting attacked by her own pit bulls, but insists the attacks are always her fault

FLORIDA -- She’s a symphony orchestra conductor who has made a name for herself in the world of fine arts. She loves music and she also loves something else. Pit bulls.

But the south Florida woman says a recent pit bull attack won’t keep her from conducting later this month at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton.

Sebrina Alfonso is one of only a few female conductors in the world.

She is the music director of the South Florida Symphony Orchestra. Sebrina is passionate about music and pit bulls.

Sebrina owns two of them. Daisy and Clifford. And she has fostered at least 20 pit bulls in her home and she’s been bitten twice.

Two years ago in October 2014, she suffered a broken right wrist and had numerous staples in her right arm, the very arm she uses to hold the baton when she’s conducting.

“The attack was mostly like that and it was a bite and I mean he just bit down and then he let go,” Alfonso said as she demonstrated what happened.

Two months ago in November 2016, another attack.

Her pit bull Clifford bit her on the left arm. She received 6 stitches.

She blames herself saying in each instance she tried to separate her dogs when they got rough with each other.

“These are sweet dogs, I’m the one that gets in the way. The minute they bite and they realize it’s me, they let go,” said Alfonso.

Sebrina says she has rescued or helped rescue at least 100 pit bulls over the years, fostering a number of them at her own house until they find permanent homes. She says otherwise they’d be euthanized.

“The thing is they’re good pets, they’re actually very good pets. I’ve never had a bad pit bull,” Alfonso said.

ONE DAY THESE DOGS WILL KILL HER BECAUSE SHE IS IN COMPLETE DENIAL

We asked if it’s time to give up the dogs, before she’s sidelined by another injury.

“These are my animals, I mean they’re my, I can’t just get rid of them,” Alfonso said.

She’ll keep doing what she can to rescue pit bulls.

“I know they’re gonna, on a daily basis, a pit bull is gonna be killed who just wants to be loved like any other animal,” Alfonso explained.

She will be conducting the South Florida Symphony Orchestra when it begins its upcoming tour at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton January 22. Other performances include Ft. Lauderdale on January 24, Miami on January 25 and Key West January 26.
