Young Boy Recalls Brutal Dog Attack
OMAHA, NE -- 11-year-old Brandon McGraw remembers the intense emotion just seconds after the brutal attack. On Sunday, Brandon and a friend were walking past a home near 29th and Seward when they saw the animal tied to a chair.
"My friend said the dog looks pretty vicious, and I said usually dogs are nice," Brandon explained.
As they walked by the animal, it got free and took off after them. Brandon ran, but the dog closed in and attacked. The owner was able to get the dog away, and Brandon's friend called 911. Puncture wounds pierced his left leg, while his right one had a 3 inch gash going almost down to the bone.
"Excruciating pain, it was hurtful. I didn't think I was going to be able to walk anymore," Brandon described.
"If the owner hadn't been around, or if it had been a different time of day, my child could've lost a leg. So that's very, very, very terrifying," said Kim McGraw, Brandon's mother.
The rottweiler was taken by the Nebraska Humane Society and has been in isolation since the mauling.
Brandon has had to stay in bed for most of the week. He says he's been improving everyday, and notices that his legs are healing. While his mother is proud of his bravery, Brandon says he's still going to keep loving dogs but be more leery the next time he sees a canine that size.
"I'm going to turn the other way most likely, or be very cautious around (the dog)," Brandon concluded.
The dog owner was cited for Improper Restraint of an Animal and Menacing Behavior, which could lead to hundreds of dollars in fines, and jail time.
The owner gave the dog to NHS, and the animal is expected to be euthanized next week
