Kevin Vicente was mauled by a pit bull last year and his mother has struggled to keep up with the medical bills for his numerous surgeries.
The group decided they need to step in and help. Even Santa was on hand for the festivities.
The Vicente's had no idea, thinking they were showing up for a simple picnic.
“Last year, after everything they went through, not even a single gift,” said Gina Perez, a member of the group who made the donations. “This year, thank God to everyone who pitched in, he’ll be blessed with plenty of toys, clothes to get him through the winter. So we tried to do whatever we could.”
The group also had gifts for Kevin’s mom with $3,000 and personal items to help her get through the year. She was overcome with tears and thanked the donors repeatedly.
"Everything that we could possibly think that she was gonna need on a day to day basis." said Perez.
The group said they’ve adopted the Vicente family for at least the next year, to help translate at Kevin’s medical appointments and to help the family get whatever they need.
