Two men from Kerbela Shriners in Newport drove Williams to the Shriners Hospital early Thursday morning, and were expected to pick him up and drive him back to Cocke County on Saturday, Jan. 31.
"The surgery went very well, better than expected," said James Parks, president of the Shriners Club in Cocke County. Parks and James Greene escorted Williams to the hospital in Cincinnati.
"Brandon's grandmother said all went real good, and he can hear a lot better," Park said. "She said they (the surgeons) went down into his ears."
It was believed to be the fifth trip Williams has made to the hospital since he lost his ears, Parks said.
Parks stated that Williams lives with his grandparents on Cardinal Way, in Newport. He said that the teenager, who is in the eighth grade at Cosby Elementary School, made the honor role last semester.
Williams was carrying a package to a neighbor's house in August 2011 (that had accidentally been delivered to their house) when two dogs attacked him. His father eventually pulled the dogs off, according to newspaper archives.
The dogs' owners were charged with allowing animals to run at large (and were given probation).
