There were three victims at different locations who advised that 4 cows and 1 bull appeared to have been shot.
During the initial investigation detectives learned of a possible suspect, Matthew G. LeBlanc, who had been observed shooting an AR-15 on May 22 in an ATV in the area where the livestock was found dead, near Robinson Road and Precht Road in Bell City.
On May 29 LeBlanc was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center charged with 5 counts of aggravated cruelty to an animal; possession of CDS IV; possession of drug paraphernalia; and illegal carrying of weapons in the presence of CDS.
During the investigation several witnesses identified a second suspect, Conner L. Mier, 21, 3644 Lawrence Lane, Lake Charles. The witnesses stated Mier was with LeBlanc on the ATV when the livestock was shot. Detectives also located 13 shell casings from the firearm.
After further investigation, on June 6 detectives issued a warrant for Mier’s arrest signed by Judge Ron Ware in the amount of $91,500.
Mier was located the same day at his home and was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with 5 counts of aggravated cruelty to an animal; 13 counts of illegal discharge of a firearm from a public roadway; and 5 counts of simple criminal damage to property.
