Rottweiler attacks man riding bicycle

MICHIGAN -- A 57-year-old Jackson man was taken to Allegiance Health on Sunday afternoon for injuries to his arms and legs after he was attacked by a dog in Leoni Township.

The man was riding his bicycle in the 5000 block of Page Avenue when a large Rottweiler broke through the front door of a home and bit him numerous times, according to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.

The dog’s owner heard the commotion and was able to stop the attack, according to police.

Animal control officers and police were called to the scene about 2:30 p.m. and seized the dog without incident.

The victim had several severe puncture wounds, but police reported that the injuries were not life-threatening.

The dog is being quarantined at the Jackson County Animal Shelter, and the owner was cited for violations involving the incident, according to the Sheriff’s Office. The dog was up to date on its vaccinations.

The incident remains under investigation.
