Home health nurse visiting patient mauled by three Mastiffs

AUSTRALIA -- A woman has been mauled by three dogs on the Mornington Peninsula, while visiting a patient she was caring for.

The carer who works for Peninsula Health, had just stepped into the home of a patient who recently suffered a stroke, when she was attacked by three Mastiff cross dogs.

“I heard the dogs barking and going off, just fighting, I didn't realize they were attacking anyone,” neighbor Melissa Skeats told 7 News.

The woman suffered deep bite marks on her face, upper body and ankle.

She was taken to Frankston Hospital in a stable condition and had surgery on the wounds on Thursday afternoon.

The dogs also attacked their owner when he tried to pull them off the carer. He was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The three dogs were seized shortly after the attack, but it is not yet known if they will be destroyed.

Residents claimed the dogs had caused trouble in the neighborhood before.

Andy Jones said one of them jumped his fence last month and killed his dog, Gypsy.

He said his pet dog was found in the mouth of one of the Mastiff cross dogs.

"She had a couple of bite marks on her."

Melissa Skeats said she was forced to increase the size of her fence because she was worried they would get in her yard and attack her son.

“It’s a concern, everyday I’m watching the backyard, making sure he's fine and the dog's fine.”

Both police and the Mornington Peninsula Shire Council are investigating the matter.

Geoffrey Peterson Pleads Guilty to Animal Cruelty Charges in TN

TENNESSEE -- Geoffrey Peterson pleaded guilty in a Sequatchie County courtroom Wednesday afternoon.

Peterson pleaded guilty to three felony counts of aggravated cruelty to animals.

He was sentenced to two years suspended on the first two counts, one year suspended on the third count.

 

He will be on probation for five years, with the stipulation that he not own any animals.

A charge of possessing a Schedule II drug was dismissed.

His case stems from a raid at his Dunlap home where authorities took away more than 60 dogs, cats and other animals in reported deplorable conditions. Some animals were found dead in a freezer, officials said.

He was released, but now must face charges in Hamilton County.

Chattanooga Police issued a warrant for Peterson's arrest on separate animal cruelty charges, and also elder abuse charges against his 88 year old father.

 

Peterson, who as a registered and advanced practice nurse, operates Hormone Replacement Specialists in Chattanooga.

As of this writing, Peterson has not been booked at the Hamilton County Jail.

TN Department of Health takes action against accused animal hoarder Geoffrey Peterson

TENNESSEE -- Tennessee's Department of Health has taken action against three area medical professionals after criminal charges were filed, according to a released statement. One of these individuals include:

Geoffrey Peterson, of Dunlap, had his registered nurse and advanced practice nurses licenses suspended by the department. The department released a statement saying Peterson was unfit or incompetent by reason of negligence.

Peterson is accused of abusing and hoarding more than 80 animals. Some of them were found dead by authorities.

 

 

 

Peterson, who faces charges of four counts of aggravated animal cruelty, is due in court today in Sequatchie County.

TENNESSEE -- Animal rights workers and the Sequatchie County Sheriff's Department are clearing out a major case of animal hoarding in Dunlap, Tenn. Since about 8 a.m. this morning, more than 60 animals, mostly dogs, have been found at 640 Austin Road.

  

  

  

  

  

 

  

  

 

"We found 32 in the house when we first got here," said Chief Deputy Randall Lockhart. Then, they began searching three other sheds on the property. 

The case has already been in the works for several days, culminating in this morning's raid of the property and arrest of Geoffrey Peterson, Lockhart said.

Humane Society of United States workers from the organization's national headquarters in Maryland are on the ground, as well as workers from the organization's Nashville office.

So far, the team has found more than 50 dogs, eight cats, one goat, and one parrot.

Four of the dogs were found dead, including a puppy found in the freezer.

The team is photographing the animals, assigning them numbers, and placing them in cages to be transported. Initially, the plan was to take the animals to McKamey Animal Shelter in Chattanooga, but it's still unclear whether that facility has the capacity to take all of them.

 

"We did not think it was going think it was going to be as big as it is," said Lockhart.

Peterson, who was arrested for suspected animal cruelty, is in custody the Sequatchie County jail.
