Texas: Union Grove student returns to school after he was attacked by a neighbor's Pit Bull and Cur
TEXAS -- A 10-year-old Union Grove boy returned to school Monday after being attacked by two dogs and spending two weeks in a Dallas hospital.
Upshur County Sheriff’s Lt. Freddie Fitzgerald said deputies were called Jan. 11 to a residence in the 10,000 block of U.S. 271 South after a child got into a neighbor’s backyard and was bitten by a pit bull and Black Mouth Cur.
The child, identified by the family as Triston Milliorn, underwent two surgeries at Dallas Children’s Hospital over the past few weeks for three major dog bites — one on his arm, and one on each of his legs.
Angela Milliorn, the boy’s mother, said Triston was at the next-door residence attempting to help the neighbor catch a puppy that got out when the attack occurred.
“Triston got too close and the pit grabbed his ankle and pulled him down,” Milliorn said. “He used the fence to get up and when he did, that Black Mouth Cur jumped up and took his arm off.”
During the attack, Milliorn said the owner of the dogs watched and didn’t intervene.
“She was clapping her hands and telling them to stop, but she wouldn’t do anything, because she was scared of the dogs,” Milliorn said.
She said Triston would be in therapy until he regains full function of his elbow.
“That dog made an indention on the bottom half of his arm. He had to have skin grafts, but all of that is doable because he’s alive,” Milliorn said.
The dogs were released back to their owners’ care after being quarantined with a local veterinarian for 10 days, Fitzgerald said.
Milliorn said she was told the dogs weren’t put down because they were on the owner’s property when the attack occurred.
