California: Hungry bear breaks into a house to snack on bread and fruit before being chased away by deputies

LAKE TAHOE, CALIFORNIA -- A hungry bear broke into a California home and snacked on bread and fruit before deputies were able to chase it away.

Footage from inside the house in Northstar, North Lake Tahoe, shows the bear rifling through bags of groceries on a kitchen island.

It was posted to Facebook on Thursday by the Placer County Sheriff's Office, which branded the animal 'hungry and fearless'.

Bears are coming out of hibernation and deputies say this particular bear broke into the house specifically to look for food.

Fortunately the bear was chased away without causing any injuries or property damage.

The Sheriff's Office wrote online: 'This afternoon, this hungry and fearless bear broke into a home at Northstar, North Lake Tahoe, to get some groceries.

'The homeowners called us, and our deputies were able to chase him out of the house, after he snacked on some fruit and bread!

'As bears are coming out of hibernation, please use utmost caution if you encounter them.

'In this case, the homeowners were very grateful to the deputies who got the bear out of their house with no injuries and no property damage.'

Illinois: Chubby Raccoon Rescued By Police and Animal Control After Getting Wedged In Sewer Grate Opening

ILLINOIS -- Illinois police officers responded to aW very unique call Friday (Nov. 3) morning.

A raccoon, who Zion police believe “has been eating a little too well,” got caught in a sewer grate.

 

Animal Control officer R. Knorr and Zion Police Officer K. Vaugh were unable to remove him and had to request help “from the real heroes over at the Zion Public Works Department.” They were able to free the raccoon and he was not injured.

Zion police posted photos of the rescue to their Facebook page, adding that Officer Vaughn was more scared of the raccoon that it was of him. Good work guys!

Oregon: Deputy comes to rescue of driver with spider on the dashboard

OREGON -- An Oregon sheriff’s deputy is a hero, at least to one woman who was paralyzed with fear after finding a creepy yellow spider on her car’s dashboard.

Clackamas County Deputy Lon Steinhauer was on his usual patrol route Wednesday morning when he spotted the female driver in distress on the side of the road.

The Oregonian reported that the deputy pulled over to find out what was wrong.

“She was hysterical,” a Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson told the newspaper. “It was a huge deal for her.”

“A driver pulled over in distress and asked our deputies to remove a spider from the car’s dashboard. Deputy Steinhauer was happy to (carefully) oblige,” the Facebook post reads.

 

 

 

Officials did not specify what type of spider was terrorizing the driver, but a listing of local spiders compiled by the Oregonian last year lists a possible culprit, the goldenrod crab spider.

Though the moment was a lighthearted one, Sheriff’s Office officials pointed out that the extreme fear of spiders and other insects can occasionally become a danger. A driver in Portland rolled her vehicle last fall when a spider dropped down from her rearview mirror and startled her.

Statistic Brain Research Institute reports that more than 30 percent of the American population has a fear of spiders, or arachnophobia. It is the third most common phobia, behind the fear of public speaking and the fear of death.

Wisconsin: Shoppers at grocery store get a surprise when small deer runs through automatic doors into store

WISCONSIN -- Employees at a northeast Wisconsin Festival Foods store got a special visitor Monday evening.

 

According to a Facebook post, a deer walked through the Wine & Spirits Department.

Associates and guests formed a "human fence" to usher the little guy out an emergency exit door.

South Carolina: No bull! Bovine escapes capture in Boiling Springs

SOUTH CAROLINA -- A bull is on the run after escaping a pasture and hoofing it through Boiling Springs.

The bull was spotted Tuesday afternoon in the Sterling Estates neighborhood.

Jamie Nelson, director of Spartanburg County Environmental Enforcement, said officers with his department tried to corral the bull for more than two hours.

They were joined in the effort by the S.C. Highway Patrol and Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office.

During the getaway, the bull stampeded into Cindi Knox and Phillip Ledesma’s yard, where he was confronted by a trooper. But that didn’t stop him.

7News is told officers pursued the bull on Highway 9.

“Most cops aren’t trained to be cowboys, but I give him credit,” Ledesma says. “That bull didn’t want any part of that. He looked at the trooper, and then just as quick as he could, ran along side of him and just ran south on our street out front here.”

Nelson said he was last seen near Tool Road off Valley Falls Road.

Wisconsin woman wakes up to see giant elephant munching on the trees in her backyard after it escaped from the circus

WISCONSIN -- A Wisconsin woman woke up to a giant elephant roaming her backyard.

Jamie Lynn spotted the elephant on Friday morning in Baraboo as it wandered around her neighborhood.

Pictures Lynn shared on her Facebook page show the gigantic, 12,000-pound animal walking on the streets and in the gardens.

But its excursion only lasted 40 minutes because police then contacted the elephant's trainer, who took it back to the circus it had escaped from at about 5.40am.

It's likely the animal had wandered from Circus World in Baraboo, which has large elephants as part of its act in addition to jugglers and aerialists.

The circus didn't immediately respond when DailyMail.com reached out.

Some social media users were ecstatic the animal had escaped from the circus.

Tiffany Carr said: 'This elephant hasn't got to freely roam for how long, I'm glad she got out for a bit and didn't hurt anyone, they should be in a sanctuary with lots of room.'

Texas: Police capture escaped pigs using Doritos, Cheetos

TEXAS -- Police in Cedar Park, Texas, had to get creative when a family of pigs escaped from a local barn.

A female pig made a run for it Friday morning with her piglets in tow, CBS affiliate KEYE-TV reports.

The family made it about a mile before being spotted in a backyard, rummaging around in the mud.

Animal control officers arrived on the scene in a neighborhood about 15 miles north of downtown Austin.

 

 

KEYE reports the officers lacked the equipment needed to move the mother pig, so they lured her out into the open using bags of Cheetos and Doritos.

The owner of the pigs showed up shortly after and escorted the mama pig home. Animal control officers gave the piglets a lift back in their vehicle.

And this one went wee, wee, wee all the way home... 🐷

California: Animal Control rounds up wayward Peacock that causes $500 in damage inside liquor store

CALIFORNIA -- Just imagine the surprise for the folks who work and shop at the Royal Oaks Liquor Store in Arcadia when a peacock wandered in and wouldn’t leave.

The bird ended up flying up on top of the shelves knocking bottles over before animal control came and helped get the peacock to safety.

 

The peacock flapped around the store trying to find a way out. At one point it flew right towards Rani Ghanem who manages the store. He took video after calling animal control for help.

“It flew towards me. I didn’t know they could actually fly high but it flew up above the counter and it landed here on top of the ice cream freezer,” Ghanem said.

 

Ghanem tried to help the peacock find the door but instead the bird perched up on top of the wine shelves. With a bird’s eye view of business below, customers were still coming and going, some of them even took pictures with the bird.

“This was really out of my comfort zone, I was kind of scared I didn’t know what to do,” Ghanem said.

 

 

It wasn’t long before animal control arrived. They used a net to guide the peacock down from the top of the shelves, but it didn’t come down without a fight.

The rescue was a success and the bird was taken to safety, but Ghanem was left to clean up the mess.

 

 

The peacock ended up knocking down about $500 worth of wine and champagne.

Peacocks are a protected species, even feeding them comes with a big fine, up to $1000 and six months of jail time.
