PORT ORCHARD, WASHINGTON -- Two men were charged Tuesday with animal cruelty for shooting a high-maintenance puppy and leaving it in the bushes in a Port Orchard park.

The 5-month-old Labradoodle named Aubrey was found Monday near 1800 Sidney Avenue, which is part of Vanzee Memorial Park, after a neighbor heard the gunshot before 2 p.m. and then heard a dog whimpering and yelping.

Officers found the dog and a detective drove it to Kitsap Veterinary Hospital on Bethel Avenue, where it was stabilized and x-rayed. It was ultimately taken to the Kitsap Humane Society in Silverdale for emergency surgery.

A Facebook post Monday night from the Humane Society said the dog had been shot in the abdomen.

“We are optimistic about the dog's prognosis but would love if our followers could keep him in their thoughts tonight,” the post said.

Port Orchard Police Deputy Chief Dale Schuster said officers were lining up to adopt the puppy.

“It’s disturbing,” he said, adding that if the owner had taken the dog to the Humane Society it would have likely been re-adopted in short period of time.

As officers were canvassing the neighborhood, one found a folded-up traffic ticket for a 22-year-old man, Forrest Christian Smith, who lived nearby. His vehicle matched the description of a vehicle witnesses saw at the scene, according to court documents.

Officers went to the address and interviewed a roommate, who said Smith bought the dog about two months earlier and that since then the puppy had been “troublesome.”

Smith had not bothered to potty train (housebreak) Aubrey so she was having accidents inside the residence. Smith also wasn't bothering to take into consideration that she is a puppy and was allowing her to chew on furniture and other items.

Another roommate, A’Kinyelle Donald Thomas-Lewis, 21, said Smith was “unwilling to put up with the dog any longer” and admitted he and Smith had gone to the wooded area together and Smith shot the dog.

Officers noted Thomas-Lewis appeared confused by the investigation and behaved as though police were overreacting about the horrific animal cruelty, saying, “All this for a dog.”

Officers seized a 9 mm Glock handgun from the residence.

Smith was charged in Kitsap County Superior Court with first-degree animal cruelty; Thomas-Lewis was charged with accomplice to first-degree animal cruelty.

Australia: Alistair Morgan, 45, charged over sickening animal cruelty after dog shot through head with spear gun

AUSTRALIA -- Alistair Morgan, 45, has been charged over a shocking case of animal cruelty, accused of breaking into a neighbor’s home, beating and shooting her dog through the head with a spear gun on the NSW Central Coast.

Millie, a brown Labradoodle, has undergone surgery at a veterinary clinic in Sydney’s Homebush.

She’s now off life support and “doing quite well,” according to her owner Kim Lott, but they’ll “have to wait and see” as veterinarians slowly begin to wake the dog up.

Ms Lott says the sickening attack happened while she was at work, and was the result of a dispute with her 45-year-old neighbour of 15 years, a married father of four, over the dog barking.

Police allege the man forced entry into her Woy Woy home about midday yesterday, and beat Millie over the head.

  He then allegedly dragged the yelping dog out of the house to his fenceline, then threw her over the fence into his yard, where she became stuck between a fence and the garage wall.  

Police say he then climbed on top of his storage shed, aimed and fired a spear gun at Millie, shooting her through the head.

Ms Lott says she’s not holding up well in the wake of the attack.

“I’m just gutted,” she said.  “He’s been a neighbour for 15 years, I don’t know what to say.  I’m just gutted. She was a beautiful dog. My grandkids all loved her, she just loved the kids.

“I’m still in shock, I just can’t believe what’s happened. It’s such a beautiful dog – all because she was barking.”

Ms Lott said she took all steps to resolve the dispute with the neighbor, and never imagined her dog would be attacked.

 

 

“We’ve had talks about it, I’ve done everything I can, I’ve rung the ranger, I’ve guarded my house up so they don’t see the dog, because the dog does not like the man next door.”

She said she’s heard from neighbours the man has thrown things at the fence and “agitated” Millie in the past.

She said she also put up security cameras around her house to monitor how long the dog was barking, and that it amounted to about an hour per day, but that the cameras and surveillance equipment was stolen after the man entered her house.

Ms Lott also said the man pushed an outside barbeque against a doggie door, so the dog’s exit from the house was blocked.

Mille also suffered a collapsed lung, the result of what Ms Lott says was “a beating” at the hands of her neighbor.

“I just can’t believe it’s happened,” Ms Lott said.

She said she’d never had any problems with her neighbour before she got Millie.

“Only since I got my dog because it was barking,” she said.

Ms Lott said she no longer wants to live in her home knowing what her neighbor has allegedly done to her dog.

“I’m scared stiff now. I live by myself.  Millie was my protector, slept with me all the time. Just a beautiful dog,” she said.

“She’s the best thing, she’s such a character.”

Alistair Morgan, 45, was arrested and charged with committing an act of aggravated animal cruelty, firing a spear gun to injure a person or property and breaking and entering into a house to steal goods worth less than $60,000.

He will front Gosford Local Court today.

Arizona: Family finds dog dead, hanging in mobile pet grooming van. Groomer was high on drugs, they say

ARIZONA -- A Phoenix mother said she and her children are traumatized after they found their family dog, Max, dead of an apparent hanging in a mobile pet-grooming van.

Amanda Wohland said she and two of her children discovered Max hanging from the loop used to keep a dog in place on a grooming table.

 

 

The woman who had been grooming him "was in a fetal position on the floor" of the van, she said.

"We were all very shocked," Wohland said Monday. "To go up to the van and see that was traumatic."

It was the family's first time using Roaming Rovers Mobile Grooming for Max, a 7-year-old dog they owned since he was a puppy.

Wohland said the groomer told the family the grooming would take about two hours.

Four hours rolled by. Wohland said she was worried and, with her daughter and son, went to check on Max. That's when they discovered him dead.

The van's door was locked. At first, it looked like the groomer had vanished, Wohland said. When they tried to pry the doors open, that's when Wohland first noticed the woman on the ground and called 911.

Paramedics arrived and the groomer still seemed incoherent, Wohland said.

The family is waiting on Max's autopsy.

Sgt. Alan Pfohl, Phoenix police spokesman, said Tuesday that police were investigating whether the groomer passed out because of a medical event or some other cause and whether criminal negligence was involved.

I would test her for drugs - she may have been high on drugs and passed out. Even if she were on some sort of prescribed medication, she should be held responsible. Most medications - even over the counter cough medicine - says not to operate motor vehicles, etc. while using it.

Scott McLaughlin, whose wife owns Roaming Rovers Mobile Grooming, told The Arizona Republic Monday that he would not comment on the situation until police completed their investigation.

He said the only contact he's had with the police so far was when he arrived at the scene after he was notified of the dog's death.

"Our only comment right now is we send our condolences and sincere wishes, and our hearts go out to the owners," McLaughlin said.

We have had numerous news crews here to interview our family regarding the tragic death of our family dog Max who hung to death while the mobile groomer was apparently high (according to our eye witness account). The incident is currently under a thorough investigation so many of the important details are not allowed to be shared by the news media.

Once the investigation is complete, the heart breaking details will be shared and the media will release the results. If you have had any similar encounters with Roaming Rovers or any other groomers, please private message me.

New Mexico: Pit Bull, which was declared Dangerous in 2016, attacks tourist family and their Labradoodle during Santa Fe's annual Christmas Eve walk

NEW MEXICO -- A judge will be asked to decide whether the city of Santa Fe should euthanize a pit bull that a Los Angeles man says suddenly attacked his Labradoodle, then attacked his wife and then menaced their 8-year-old daughter during the annual Christmas Eve Farolito Walk.

Johnny Martinez, supervisor of the Animal Services Division, said Wednesday a Municipal Court judge will determine if the Pit Bull, named Jasper, should be deemed a vicious animal subject to euthanasia.

 

Records provided by Santa Fe police Wednesday show the holiday incident is the third time someone has reported that the Pit Bull suddenly attacked a nearby dog since December 2015.

The Pit Bull’s owner, John Russell Pancake, 64, did not return a message seeking comment Wednesday evening.

According to a report by Animal Services Officer Jason Apodaca, Jasper was in the care of a dog sitter at the time of the attack. The woman told Officer Apodaca that the Pit Bull was secure in John Pancake's nearby residence when he suddenly bolted out an open door, the report says, and she chased after the dog.

David Frankham said in a statement Wednesday that he, his wife, their daughter and their 10-year-old labradoodle, Chuko, were walking on Canyon Road around 9:40 p.m. Sunday when a “large pit bull” attacked, locking his jaws on the backside of the family’s dog, “tearing at him as we pulled and fought to get him off.”

“Hearing the cries of our dog, our yells for help, and our daughter’s screams — two other people walking up Canyon [Road] tried to help,” Frankham said.

The Pit Bull then bit the right arm of Frankham’s wife, he said. Frankham said he began kicking the Pit Bull and he released his jaws.

After the Pit Bull turned his attention to Frankham’s 8-year-old daughter, Frankham said, he grabbed the Pit Bull by the neck and restrained it until a woman who identified herself as the Pit Bull’s dog sitter finally showed up.

The statement said the family ran to the nearest house on Canyon Road where a good Samaritan welcomed them inside and helped attend to the injuries until an EMT arrived and treated the woman’s wound.

They took the Labradoodle to an animal emergency clinic where treatment included 40 stitches to close up its wounds.

Frankham in an interview said he wished the city’s animal control officer would have impounded the Pit Bull immediately. Instead, Officer Apodaca decided to quarantine the dog at its home, records show.

REPEAT OFFENDER
On Wednesday, after determining that Jasper had been implicated in two previous attacks, Animal Services impounded the pit bull.

Martinez, the animal control supervisor, said animal control officers have discretion as to whether to impound an animal. In this case, he said, the officer inspected Pancake’s premises and decided the dog could be securely kept there while officials investigated whether Jasper had a history of attacks.

PIT BULL DECLARED DANGEROUS IN 2016
Records show Jasper was deemed a dangerous dog in October 2016, when Pancake agreed in a Municipal Court judgment that for a 180-day period the canine would be kept on a 3-foot leash and muzzled whenever away from the owner’s premises.

The settlement says that if Jasper was involved in “any attack” it would be deemed a vicious animal and euthanized.

The problem I see is that it appears they only declared this Pit Bull to be Dangerous for six months (180 days) so it April 2017, the restrictions were removed.

Dangerous Animals. No person shall keep or harbor a dangerous animal in a manner that constitutes a threat to a person or other domesticated animal. An animal deemed dangerous by a court of law shall be muzzled, on a leash no longer than three (3) feet, and under the immediate physical control of the owner or person having custody whenever the animal is not on the premises of the owner or person having custody. If an animal is found to be dangerous and the owner or person having custody of the animal has been found to not be in compliance with this section, then the animal may be deemed vicious by a court of law.

New York: After Christopher Chabrier's four Pit Bulls mauled Labradoodle, Chabrier punched man in the face and then fled with his maulers

NEW YORK -- A four-year-old, 45-pound labradoodle was viciously attacked by four unleashed pit bulls in a South Slope park yesterday morning.

The dog’s owner, who wishes to remain anonymous, says she was walking with her dog toward the park across from the Detective Joseph Mayrose Park by the intersection of Prospect and 6th Avenues Thursday morning at approximately 9am.

She saw a man approach the park with four leashed pit bulls, so she decided to walk her dog on the street instead, she says.

After completing their walk, the woman and her dog walked over to the park to throw away a poop bag in a trash can that is approximately three feet into the park.

She says the four pit bulls were unleashed on the other side of the park as she approached the trash can but came charging toward her and her dog. The four pit bulls lunged at her labradoodle.

“All four dogs had their jaws on my dog,” she told BKLYNER of the horrifying incident.

The woman says she began screaming at the pit bulls and tried pushing them and prying them off her dog, getting knocked around, dragged, and almost getting bitten herself during the ten minute altercation.

The pit bulls’ owner came over and tried unsuccessfully to tear them away from her dog as well.

Each time they were able to pry one pit bull off her dog, it would immediately come back and bite it again. She says the pit bulls even snapped at and bit each other during the frenzy.

A large group of neighbors gathered to watch but were afraid to intervene, she says. She repeatedly begged them to call 911, which several of them did.

Finally, after the victim pleaded, a bystander retrieved the pit bull’s leashes and tossed them over to her, she says. The owner of the pit bulls was finally able to leash his dogs up and pull them away from the victim’s dog.

One of the pit bulls “looked like he put his face in a puddle of blood,” the victim recalls of the bloody aftermath.

She says it took approximately 25 minutes for EMS and the police to arrive, but the pit bulls’ owner did not stick around and wait despite her and bystanders demanding he not leave.

He gave the victim a business card, which lists him as a “dog walker” and tried to leave the scene amid the group of bystanders shouting at him to stay.

"PIT AND RUN" - OWNER FLED WITH DOGS

The man then dropped the pit bulls’ leashes, walked over to one male bystander who was telling him to remain on the scene, and punched him in the face, knocking him to the ground, the woman says. The man then took his pit bulls and left the park.

The male victim suffered a bloody nose and a cut to his face and was taken to Methodist Hospital, according to a NYPD representative. He is listed in stable condition.

The woman suffered various “scrapes and bruises on my legs, knees, arms, elbows and feet,” she says, while her dog suffered wounds to her chest and paw requiring sutures, as well as an injury to her ear.

Both were at home recovering on Friday.

CAREER CRIMINAL

Christopher Chabrier was arrested for assault, menacing, disorderly conduct, and harassment, the NYPD told BKLYNER. This is the 34-year-old’s eighth arrest. His prior arrests were drug-related, according to a police representative.

The victim claims that an arresting officer informed her that the DOH say that Chabrier is up-to-date on his dogs’ vaccinations and paperwork and did not take the dogs away.

Because these four dogs are still in the neighborhood, she’d like to warn the community about them.

“We are so lucky to be alive,” she says. “That could have been my son. So many kids play in that park.”

Some park areas allow dogs to be off leash from the time the park opens until 9am and from 9pm until the park closes, according to the NYC Parks website. The victim says that the park where the incident occurred does not have off leash hours.

This is not the first time these dogs have attacked. My partner was warned by a local business that they saw these dogs attack another person and their dog weeks ago. Every time I see this man in the neighborhood walking his dogs, one (not a pitbull) is usually off the leash. I always cross the street and try to stay far away.

Hello, Please contact me as soon as possible. My dog and I were attacked in March and we have surveillance footage of it. Our attack was damn near the same thing. I would be more than happy to submit an affidavit to the District Attorney on this woman’s behalf. We live in the neighborhood and my dog has played with just about every labradoodle, so it pains me to think of who exactly it may be. This man needs to be off of the street.

I have personally seen two separate attacks involving these dogs and have heard of numerous incidents from people who have had run-ins with this guy and his dogs. I’ve interacted with him directly several times– once after I watched his dogs maul a woman’s dog at that park on 17th street and 7th ave. He also then found it a good opportunity to pass out his business card to promote his bogus dog walking service.

This guy is NOT RIGHT. He is dangerous, his dogs are aggressive and very strong and he has not taken a single measure to be less of a menace to the people of this community and their dogs. This dude gets away every time something like this happens and it is outrageous and downright dangerous. Please keep your own dogs on a leash in that area and stay away from this guy if you see him.

Poor Tilly has been attacked by a Pit Bull dog.

Completely unprovoked, the dog just leapt on her, outside a shop, and it would have killed her if a passing policeman had not intervened with his pepper spray (the dog's owner + my dad + a man driving past, who stopped his car to try to help, could not tear it off Tilly).

CCTV footage shows the attack clearly. She has been operated on and is very poorly. Tilly is the softest, most friendly dog I have ever known. This is just so upsetting.

The #DangerousDogsAct has to be brought in to action to stop people being able to buy these dangerous animals (they may not be dangerous in "the right hands" but they sure as hell are in "the wrong hands").

Tilly is a large dog and has such a thick coat - imagine the damage to a small, thin-coated dog, or a child!

Florida: Dog named Einstein mauled by Pit Bull. Surprise, surprise "the owner of the pit bull does not accept any responsibility".

FLORIDA -- My dog Einstein was attacked by a pit bull while I was walking him on a leash in my neighborhood on June 25, 2017.

He was rushed to an emergency animal clinic and received surgery to repair serious injury to his hip and body. He currently has a drain tube to remove fluids while severe bruising causes swelling. His skin may or may not heal completely, and infection and tissue necrosis may happen due to the lack of blood flow from the skin being ripped.

 

At at this point finances are a problem because I am unemployed in the summer and the owner of the pit bull does not accept any responsibility. He does have to go to court because we are prosecuting. However, to get him to pay for my dog's medical care is unlikely.

First I will have to file a claim in small claims court. Secondly, even if he is found responsible for the bill, it will be up to me to get him to pay. I get the feeling he's not going to. However, if I do get a payment from him someday, I promise to donate any money received from Gofundme to an animal charity.

I know now a lot of my friends care but may not be able to pitch anything in. Your get well wishes are more important. Thanks everyone.

Oh ny gosh, thank you! Goal was met today. I am forever grateful. Einstein and I thank you. We go back to vet tomorrow. Quick update: Einstein is slowly getting better. Swelling has gone down. Still a lot of oozing but no infection. Eating, drinking well. Potty is still an issue, but improving. I have to carry him outside. Thanks for all your love and concern, everyone, and thank you to everyone who sent money. We are blessed with friends and strangers alike who care and want to help. We met our fund raising goal and thankfully we can pay for his visits, medication, and any treatments his wound may need. I want to get a soft neck cone instead of the long hard one he has to wear, but I'm waiting till his tube comes out because he is really good at reaching his lower body with a shorter cone. He's got a long, limber torso. ❤️

Update 3
Good day for Einstein. Vet thought he is doing better at our appointment. He started getting a super antibiotic last night, in addition to the one he is already getting 2 times a day. This one seems to be more specific to the nasty germs from the other dog's bite. I promise to keep sharing updates.

Thank you to everyone who has reached out. The encouragement helped me through the week. I think it helped Einstein too. All the good vibes, positive thoughts, prayers, support, and love just drift across the distance and lift us up. We go back to vet tomorrow or Wednesday, depending on how he's doing tomorrow. Update 4
Hi everybody! What's all this fuss about? I feel great today. Mom and dad had to make me stop jumping off the bed to hang out with my brother Jack. I don't know why they won't let me. I feel good. I hate this headgear thing, though. I hope it's gone soon. The dog-ter put this on me because the first one wasn't big enough to keep me from chewing on my bandages. Oh well, shucks.
