Florida: 'The deputy put his arm up. The Pit Bull was going for his neck and head. He tripped while backing up from the dog. He used an entire can of pepper spray on this dog and they had to shoot it'

MARY ESTHER, FLORIDA --  A pizza delivery man was hospitalized Sunday night after being attacked by a pit bull on Brian Circle.

The Pit Bull then attacked the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office deputy who responded to the call.

The Pit Bull, named Capo, was shot and killed.

Note:  In the article, they have the Pit Bull's name listed as Cupo. However, the listed residents and their relatives refer to a Pit Bull, seen below, as Capo.

“It was a big strong dog,” said OCSO spokeswoman Michele Nicholson, adding that the pit bull had not been neutered. PAWS Director Dee Thompson said Capo weighed over a hundred pounds and was “all muscle.”

According to Nicholson, the homeowner said the dog ran from the backyard at 560 Brian Circle, chased and then attacked the pizza delivery driver, 19-year-old John Wade.

Thompson said the driver had been instructed to call the homeowners before knocking due to the dog, but he did not and instead knocked on the front door. When the homeowner opened the side door to reprimand the driver for not calling, the dog slipped out and attacked him.

If the pizza guy is knocking on the front door, why would he open the side door? If he wanted the pizza guy to call first - due to his vicious Pit Bull - why wouldn't he simply put the vicious Pit Bull into a bedroom and shut the door before OPENING ANY DOOR TO HIS RESIDENCE? 

Thompson said the Pit Bull was so strong it dragged the grown man from the front yard, into the street and all the way across the street where it continued its attack.

Good Samaritans heard the young man screaming "Help! Help!" and stopped. A man jumped from his vehicle and beat the Pit Bull with a pipe until it released the delivery driver then he and his wife pulled the victim into her car (you can see the blood all over the floor mats of her vehicle). They called 911 and you can hear their 911 call at the end of this post.

A tourniquet was used to stop the bleeding until EMS arrived and transported the teen to Fort Walton Beach Medical Center. He suffered extensive injuries to his lower leg and foot that required surgery.

After the attack, OCSO K9 handler Deputy Cutler Petersen and another deputy arrived to assist the homeowner in restraining the dog outside 541 Brian Circle.

According to Nicholson, the deputies helped the homeowner get its harness and leash attached, but the woman wasn't strong enough to control her own dog and the Pit Bull pulled the leash out of her hands, charged and attacked  Deputy Petersen, who then used pepper spray in an unsuccessful attempt to stop the attack.

In trying to get away from the charging Pit Bull, Deputy Petersen tripped over a raised flower bed and the dog lunged at his head and neck area. The Pit Bull bit down on Deputy Petersen’s arm as he covered his head and neck. The other deputy tried to pull the Pit Bull off Deputy Petersen, but he would not release his bite.

 

The deputy then shot the Pit Bull multiple times. The dog died at the scene.

What was the woman, the Pit Bull's owner, doing all this time - after she let go of the leash and watched her own dog attack the police officer? Just standing there?

PAWS Director Dee Thompson said the Pit Bull had four bullets in his body and two in his head. She added that pepper spray is generally not effective at detaining dogs and may just agitate them even more.

Deputy Petersen was taken to Fort Walton Beach Medical Center, where he underwent surgery to repair his damaged arm. He was in surgery until midnight, Nicholson said.

“He used an entire can of pepper spray on this dog and they had to shoot it,” she said. “The deputy put his arm up. The dog was going for his neck and head. He tripped while backing up from the dog.”

The attacks happened just before 8 p.m.

Thompson said Capo had previously attacked a woman. At the dog’s hearing where he could have officially been deemed dangerous, the bite victim did not bother to show up as is required in those hearings, and so the case had to be dropped.

This woman is responsible for these newest victims. They should sue her - and the Pit Bull owner who chose to keep his mauler after the first attack.

Residents of the quiet neighborhood behind the Santa Rosa Mall came home to find the street lit up with emergency personnel and what some, at first, thought was a body in the front yard.

PIT BULL KNOWN IN NEIGHBORHOOD FOR BEING VICIOUS
Blanca Zapata-Gomez, who lives a few blocks away, said she and her husband had several encounters with the Pit Bull and that her husband started carrying a big stick when they walked.

Eventually, they gave up and started walking at the mall, instead, she said.
“We walked in the neighborhood every night, but we’ve stopped now,” she said.
Most recently, she was walking by the fenced-in neighborhood park and was startled by what she described as a loud “whomp” on the fence.

 

The owners were on the other side of the park and the dog had spotted her and run over, stopping only when he hit the fence.

She said the dog was “short, fat and very strong,” and that she was worried the fence wouldn’t be strong enough to hold him.

“Thank God the gates were closed,” she said.

ARIZONA -- "Fundraising to save dog's life exceeds goal"

UPDATE: The GoFundMe account to help raise money to save the life of Stewie 'Bug' has exceeded its $2,500 fundraising goal needed to pay emergency vet bills.

The online campaign has raised $2,900 as of Thursday morning.

ORIGINAL STORY: William Gilbert, and his wife, Robin Hensley, told News 4 Tucson if they couldn't pay the money upfront, their beloved dog would be euthanized. They thanked the community for their generous donations.

A local couple says they are in desperate need of help after their dog was viciously attacked by another dog.

William Gilbert and his wife, Robin Hensley, say a neighbor’s dog broke past their fence and into their Southside home this week.

“I tried to stop the dog and I couldn't and it got my dog under the kitchen table,” said Hensley. “And he was just shaking my dog really hard.”

Robin was eventually able to get her dog, Stewie 'Bug', away from the attacking dog.

She beat the Pit Bull with this iron pipe.

“My dog was lying unconscious in the floor and there was just blood spread everywhere in the kitchen,” she said.

County officials took the attacking dog away. Stewie is now in grave condition. The family is now stuck with a $2,000 emergency vet bill and, if they can’t pay it, they say they will have to euthanize their dog.

“We can't find a vet that would even help us without everything up front, they won’t even take five hundred dollars down and take payments,” she said. “It's not our fault that this happened; it's not our dog's fault that this happened. He’s suffering and we're suffering.”

 

PACC officials confirmed that the attacking dog was only recently adopted from its center. Officials say it had no bite history, but was classified as not being good with other dogs. It has been surrendered to the county, and will not be placed for adoption again.

My neighbor adopted the pit bull just a few days before the pit bull charged in my house as I was leaving, he had jumped my fence to even get in my yard, he viciously attacked my dog bug under my kitchen table, I hit the pit bull with a metal pipe several times before he dropped bugs lifeless body! Now bug bug is fighting so hard to survive. Please pray for bug, he's my heart!

Mike Fisher - I'm so sorry that happened I understand you're in pain but PLEASE DON'T blame the breed Blame the OWNER I've seen pit bulls nursing kittens It's NOT the breed It's how it's raised It's idiotic owners too lazy or don't know how to train their dog

Robin Diane Gilbert - Mike I'm not blaming the breed, the owner had just adopted the dog from animal control a couple days earlier, but still to blame for not having control of him, I blame animal control more for this. The dog had been in shelter two years and was known not to get along with other dogs, he should have never been adoptive out.

No, Robin. You should blame the breed. It's akin to having a tiger living next door to you. When that tiger gets loose and attacks your dog, wouldn't it be reasonable to say that your neighbor never should have had a tiger to begin with? It was a ticking time bomb waiting for the opportunity to attack. This is what they have been bred for for hundreds of years. The dog cannot help itself, but that is why BSL is so important. Mandatory sterilization, mandatory liability insurance, mandatory muzzling, mandatory approved cage/fence inspection by animal control. Treat them the same as owners of tigers, lions and bears.

The dog is still in serious condition he had his surgery is having a lot of trouble breathing the vet send him home at night with us to monitor and he'll be hospitalized every day during the daytime for medication and evaluation Robin and we don't know how to thank everyone properly we are very private people and hated to ask for help and you all stepped up and helped I just can't thank you enough we will continue to update this daily

thanks to all of you people we have reached our goal and more here's an update on the dog. He's going to spend one more night at the vet's office tonight. They say he is improving he was trying to bite them LOL they were trying to put an IV in his leg and he hates people messing with his feet so he was trying to bite them that says a lot right there to me cuz I know he hates that. If they like what they see in the morning he will be sent home for good. He still going to need rehab and follow-up visit

I don't know how often but things are definitely looking up and this is all thanks to you for helping us get the cash up front. Robin and I are overjoyed with the outpouring we have received support and best wishes we are both absolutely amazed at the response from our new community. I will update this page in the morning but once again thanks to all of you it looks like we're going to get a positive outcome

When bug got hurt and we found out we were going to need some money I must have made 150 phone calls trying to get some money called credit card people asking for credit line increase got $500 and sent that right in.

when I found out that the dog that attacked our dog was adopted out 2 days prior by the City of Tucson I called them up and ask them for help. They tried to bully me into putting my dog down and refused to help.

Also the 24-hour vet that had him the first night also tried to bully us into putting him down. Robin and I said no way we're not giving up on this dog and we got him the hell out of there as soon as we could.

I know he's emotional, but blaming the vet clinic is wrong. Imagine how many people come in with their pets and don't have a way to pay their bills. The vet kindly treats their pet and then never gets paid. The vet can send the unpaid bill to collections, but they'll never collect - even if they win a judgment. The vet gets too many of these and s/he can't pay their own bills. Employees get laid off and the vet business goes under and closes, putting 20+ people out of work. It may seem heartless for the vet to insist on the payment upfront, but you have to take the emotion out of it. 

Also, the vet has an obligation to ensure that the animal is treated or euthanized. You cannot simply take a seriously, critically-injured animal home and "hope for the best". By law, you as an owner must provide needed medical care to your animal - or surrender it to someone who can provide it - or euthanize it. The vet wasn't being hateful; s/he was trying to make sure this little dog wasn't taken home and left to suffer for days before finally dying because the owners couldn't pay the bills and refused to euthanize the dog. 

Thanks to the people at Santa Cruz Veterinary we were able to get him in and treated before they were paid. Don't know how much the final bill is going to be don't care this dog is worth it. He's such a big part of our family Robin and I haven't slept for 3 days it's been really tough working falling asleep driving but I've managed to keep moving. Can't get the little guy out of my mind Robin is the same way. I want to thank everyone again for the support hopefully he comes home in the morning.

The dog stayed at the vet all night last night by himself the vet was comfortable with this and they have just arrived waiting for Robin to call me and update his status fingers crossed tick tick tick hurry up and call me!

Great news the dog is going home for good your donations made it possible to cover all three vet bills and there's some left over we will use that to pay for follow-up care. Robin and I are so truly grateful we've never had to ask for money before and we are so deeply touched I just can't find the words to thank you properly. He still needs care has to go back Monday and have drain tubes removed but all in all they are comfortable sending him home to finish healing. Once again from the bottom of my heart I want to thank you and we will update you as he heals up.

I am so upset in fact just calmed down. I put Annabell out on her chain in the front of my porch she is a very small Bishon Frise then I went back inside in the living room not ten feet away from Annabell then I heard all this screaming crying awful fighting yelping so I started screaming. I said help help I don't know what is going on out there.

Luckily my son Larry and my grandkids were over we all ran to the door I couldn't tell what was happening I cant see a thing then Larry started yelling this lady was walking her Pit bull maybe a mix? the pit was hurting my Annabell my son picked up the metal chair on my porch and threw it at the mean dog then he told that lady what is wrong with you she was walking her dog without a leash and he attacked my little dog she also had two children with her them poor kids seeing all this

I cant believe that dog came into my yard and got my Annabell. I just am so upset I don't think she is hurt too bad she feels wet but no blood thank God so if anyone on here that lives in my neighborhood the lady walked down Richford turned on to Oakmont I would like to know who she is and if her dog has had her shots and to tell her off I didn't get to say anything to her because I wasn't sure what happened till it was over and was told my grandkids were upset seeing this too. I hope the other dog isn't hurt because he got a chair throwed at him but that was the only way to get the dog off and out of my yard thank God that dog didn't kill my Annabell.

Shiffler Betty - Dawn I am so sorry about your dog and glad she is ok. I had to put my little shih tzu Max to sleep because a pit got ahold of her. A man tried to beat him with a pipe it took the police to taser him. I ran max to the teams vet on central. There was nothing they can do. Sonya and my friend stayed with Max when they put him down I couldn't do it. It's only been 2 days but he was like a child to me.

Arkansas: Man mauled by four Pit Bulls; saved by man who ran up and beat the dogs with a metal pipe

ARKANSAS -- A Saline County man is recovering from injuries suffered from a pit bull attack that occurred Monday, according to a report from the Saline County Sheriff's Office.

At about 6:35 p.m., deputies responded to 524 Atkins Road in reference to a dog bite.

Once there, officers noticed the victim — Matthew Bean, 23 — being loaded into an ambulance as medics treated "several lacerations all over his body," the report stated.

Bean told officers that Tammy Godsey asked him if he wanted a beer and that he was waiting in front of her home.

That is when Bean says Godsey "let her four pit bulls out of her house."

Bean added that the dogs jumped a fence and began biting him. The report states that Bean attempted to run from the Pit Bulls as he screamed for help.

He said he jumped a fence to try and get away, but that one of the dogs, too, leaped over the fence and began biting him and holding him to the ground.

According to the report, Bean said a man came to his aid, beating the dog with a pipe until it stopping attacking.

Bean was transported to Saline Memorial Hospital. The victim suffered multiple dog bites, including sizeable chunks taken out of his leg and foot.

Godsey was cited for with four counts of violating County Ordinance 2010-64 Vicious Animal.

Godsey's boyfriend, Jason Halpine, too, was cited with four counts of violating the vicious animal ordinance.

According to Lt. Jeff Silk, spokesman for the Saline County Sheriff's Office, all four dogs were taken from the home Tuesday and will be put down. He added that the four animals also will be tested for rabies.

Saline County has no leash law. However, since her brother's attack, Jeanetta Bean says she has learned of at least two other times those dogs have gone after someone, including a little girl. That concerns her, both as a mother and dog owner, as she says no one deserves to be attacked by a dog.

Jeanetta Bean is now hoping her brother's misfortune serves as a warning for less responsible pet owners to be more aware. She prays no other families have to witness a loved one torn up the way her brother was.

"Take care of your dogs," she said. "Watch them, put them up, and prevent it."

Yesterday my brother was attacked by 4 Pit bulls Without a doubt my brother would probably not still be here today if it weren't for one of the owners neighbors being home that heard him screaming, running, and desperately jumping fences to get away from them.

The man went out with some sort of metal bar and ran to his aid smacking one of the dogs off of him on one side of the fence.

I don't know the exact of how the other dogs got put up or if they ran off but I'm so thankful to the man who was willing to run out and put himself in danger to try to save my brother.

My brother clearly is extremely fortunate we all know the damage a single dog can do and being attacked by 4 at once is certainly not good odds. I'm going to say given that circumstance he was lucky to have non-life threatening injuries - and was released back home after they stapled him up.

Please pray for him as he is in an extremely large amount of pain.

As for the dogs we were told they have to be removed by Tuesday - the sheriff wouldn't dispatch the dogs and the man who owns the dogs said they won't allow him to dispatch them. For now the dogs are still at the man's home. We are waiting to hear back from animal control as to if or when they will seize, test, and euthanize these dogs.

-- Now that said these dogs had an owner they were kept in the house along with other dogs -- the owners girlfriend or wife called my brother to the fence to offer him a drink as he was walking to his friends house since they knew him. She went inside and accidentally left the door open and this happened the dogs got out and ran chased him as he jumped over 2 fences and had him stuck on one as they stripped his shoes and yanked and ripped at him...

-- my point is -- you may say your dog stays inside, you may think you know your dogs, they are nice dogs, couldn't hurt a fly, don't feel your dog needs a fence, this is the country no leash law, a bunch of hah blah --

If you own a dog or especially multiple dogs proper fencing is necessary!

If you can't walk through your door without your dog running out you need to fence your front yard. If you have a front yard always make sure to latch the gate any time you enter or exit. This is a sad but serious experience you might think your dogs will never get out but they are unpredictable and can. This is why extra precautions should always be made.

If this had been a child the child would probably be dead. If this was someone's pet the pet would probably be dead. My brother has been through a lot in life and this kills me.

He is so fortunate to be alive.

The message I hope to get across here is - that it should never have to get to this point - if you own a dog you should own a proper fence, a fully enclosed yard, 10x10, tieouts, or even just making sure that gate is latched or locked. Whatever is necessary to keep them put up and your friends, family, pets, and community safe.

This isn't to be hateful towards the owner but to remind people in my community why I constantly complain about the dogs in my area that other people do allow to roam and why when they attack my animals I threaten to shoot them if it continues and they are not secured. Surely everyone can now visually understand why sometimes this is the safest option.

This is my brother and this is a real issue most communities can relate to.

Australia: Residents fight off a pit bull with a child's SCOOTER after it knocked over a toddler and viciously attacked a woman on a Sydney street - before turning on another dog

AUSTRALIA -- In the aftermath of a vicious dog attack, local residents used poles and a scooter to stop the animal from injuring another dog.

An escaped pit bull was on the loose on Old Kent Road in Greenacre in Sydney's south-west, when the canine caught a whiff of a spit roast and entered the front yard of a home where a birthday party was taking place.

   

 

 

The dog ran up to a two-year-old child and knocked her down before a woman, who was trying to intervene, was bitten on the leg.

She suffered a non-serious bite wound to her ankle and was treated by paramedics at the scene.

Another woman was scratched by the dog during the incident.

The dog then ran on the road and started to attack another dog before two men used a pole and children's scooter to separate them.

In footage from the scene, one man is seen swinging a scooter up in the air before smashing it into the animal.

Later, the video shows a man - alleged to be the violent dog's owner - taking his animal away.

Another man, believed to be the owner of the other dog, also appears in the footage collecting his pet.

A witness told Daily Mail Australia they saw a man drive to a nearby property with the dog who attacked the woman, before police made a visit to that home later.

A police spokesperson confirmed officers attended the incident around 2:15pm on Saturday afternoon.

She said the matter has been referred onto Bankstown Council.
