Rhode Island: Animal cruelty suspect Michael Williams was already on probation for animal cruelty

SMITHFIELD, RHODE ISLAND -- One of two men charged with keeping more than two dozen dogs in squalid conditions at a Smithfield home faced a judge Thursday.

Michael Williams (aka Mike Williams, Omar Williams), 34, was arraigned on 25 counts of animal cruelty but the judge said the lead charge against him was growing marijuana with an expired permit.

He was ordered held without bail for violating the terms of his probation, which stemmed from a similar arrest last year.

Investigators on Tuesday removed 25 dogs, mainly English Bulldogs and French Bulldogs, from Williams' home at 189 Pleasant View Avenue.

The Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RISPCA) said it was alerted to the situation by a delivery person. Smithfield police said there was a strong smell of feces and urine upon entering the home.

In addition, dozens of rare snakes and more than 300 rats were discovered in the basement of a shed on the property.

 

 

 

Williams was arrested last year on 11 counts of animal cruelty - about 30 dogs were seized at the time - but for some reason the prosecutor's office didn't bother to include "not to own animals" as part of his plea agreement so he wasn't barred from having animals.

And apparently they actually returned some of the seized dogs that he's accused of abusing.

Officials said some of the dogs removed on Tuesday were among the ones seized last year when Williams was charged with Animal Cruelty for the first time.

Investigators believe Williams was breeding the animals to sell. The dogs are now recovering at the RISPCA and various municipal shelters.

 

 

 

 

 

"We got an update in court that one of the dogs that's in the care of another agency is being brought in for surgery this morning, so they did have some pretty significant health issues," RISPCA Special Agent Earl Newman said.

Williams has so far relinquished the rights to four pets, according to Newman.

The second man arrested, Michael Ramos (aka Noel Ramos, Mike Ramos, Michael Noel Ramos), 35, was charged with 25 counts of animal cruelty as well as one count of conspiracy.

As a first offender, he posted bail and was released the night of his arrest. He's due back in court April 3 for arraignment.

Massachusetts: Future serial killer Miguel Medina, 22, sentenced to a year in the county jail for torturing and killing kittens "for fun"

MILFORD, MASSACHUSETTS -- A Massachusetts man accused of killing kittens because he was bored has been sentenced to a year in the county jail.

Authorities say Milford resident Miguel Medina threw one kitten into a wall and burned another in a fire pit, prompting his arrest last year. A witness told police Medina talked about killing kittens "for fun" when he was bored.

The Telegram & Gazette reports the 22-year-old Medina was convicted of killing or maiming an animal and animal cruelty. He will receive credit for the 100 days he already has spent in jail.

Medina has a history of criminal charges, including domestic assault on family members, destruction of property, vandalism and drug dealing.

 

ORIGINAL STORY:

A man is facing several charges after allegedly viciously torturing and killing kittens that lived on a family farm at which he was staying.

On Sunday, Oct. 15, two officers were called to Ferrucci's Farm on Howard Street regarding an unwanted person on the property. Members of the Ferrucci family told police that Miguel Medina, who had been staying in a camper behind the farm, was threatening and bothering family members, and refused to leave.

Police walked up to the camper when Medina said, "I knew you guys were coming." Police asked him to leave the property, and he seemed very hesitant, according to a police report. Medina reportedly grabbed his belongings and left.

After he left, a member of the Ferrucci family told police that Medina had texted her that he had killed kittens that lived on the farm.

Police were shown text messages Medina sent in which he said he killed kittens on the farm, the document said


Another man on the scene said that Medina had told him about the killings, and invited him inside the camper to see.

"I had other kittens, but one bit my favorite kitten," Medina allegedly told the man, "... so I threw that kitten against the wall and then I put it under a table." 

Medina then reportedly showed the man the kitten bones under the table, and said, "Check this out. I burned this one yesterday!"

The witness told police that Medina showed him the charred body of the kitten in the fire pit and that he "talks heavily about kittens daily and admits to killing a couple a week for fun when he is bored." 

The witness brought police to the camper, where officers saw kitten bones "all over the grass."

Police also saw the burned kitten in the fire pit.

Police found Medina, whose home address is listed as Main Street, Milford, on Central Street and placed him under arrest. While booking Medina, he reportedly said, "I killed a kitten," while being finger-printed, said police.

Medina was charged with two counts of killing/maiming/poisoning an animal and one charge of animal cruelty.

A Milford District Court judge ordered Medina to complete a mental evaluation at the Worcester House of Corrections when he appeared in court on Oct. 16.

Medina pleaded not guilty to all charges on Oct. 16, and is scheduled to appear back in Milford District Court on Nov. 13, reports the Boston Globe.

They made a big mistake by not requiring mental health intervention with this plea agreement. This guy is a serial killer in the making.

New Mexico: Thirteen-time convicted felon Shaun Anaya will spend at least 8 months in jail for beating and torturing a puppy with power tools

NEW MEXICO -- This afternoon, Attorney General Hector Balderas announced that Shaun Anaya, who was on probation for an Office of the Attorney General case and is a thirteen-time convicted felon, was found by Second Judicial District Judge Angela Jewell to have violated his probation for committing extreme cruelty to animals and possession of marijuana.

The Office of Attorney General Hector Balderas asked Judge Jewell to impose the maximum penalty of 1,421 days in prison which included habitual enhancements.

Anaya was sentenced to two years in the Department of Corrections for the violations.

Likely he'll only serve a 1/3 of that "with good behavior" so assume he'll be out in 8 months' time.

 

"Violence against animals is so many times directly linked to domestic violence and can never be discounted," said Attorney General Balderas. "My office is committed to holding violent, repeat offenders accountable."

Shaun Anaya was arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty in June of 2017 when he was accused of brutally beating and mutilating a Pit Bull puppy with power tools in the backseat of his car on June 1, 2017, leaving the three-month-old dog bloody, with a broken tooth and other injuries.

Anaya has denied hurting the puppy, claiming a group of kids injured it.

“I know you’re telling me you didn’t, but all of the evidence, physical testimony, eye-witness, ear-witness says that this happened, “said Judge Jewell.

HORRIFIC DETAILS FROM THE POLICE REPORT:

On June 1, 2017, at approximately 2358 hours (1158pm), I was dispatched to the alley just south of ______ in response to a call about an animal.

Caller advised he could see an individual beating his dog in a vehicle. He could see the individual hitting the dog and throwing it around the vehicle. While en route, Dispatch advised that the caller could still hear the dog screaming.

Further remarks just as I was arriving advised the man was standing at the rear of the vehicle with the tailgate up and the caller could hear a power tool.

I arrived and parked just west of the alley and approached on foot.

From approximately 40 feet away I saw a man, later identified as SHAUN ANAYA, standing at the tailgate of a vehicle with the tailgate open. He was moving his hands and appeared to be working on something in the tailgate.

I heard a dog yelping and screaming in agony. I began walking towards him and got within 30 feet and could see he was doing something to a small dog.

I shined my flashlight at him and he quickly stopped what he was doing and started trying to clean up the area. As soon as he stopped the dog immediately stopped yelping.

Shaun said, "Can you get your flashlight out of my face?"

I observed blood on several areas of the dog's fur. I observed blood all over the carpeted area in the rear of the car and smeared on the inside of the back right window. I observed dog feces in several areas of the back of the vehicle and on a power saw on the blade and on the handle.

The passenger door was open and I observed blood on the seat and blood smeared on the door. There was fresh blood spatter all over the dash. I observed the small puppy had swollen eyes and was very sluggish. I observed blood in his mouth and saw he had a broken tooth on the right side of his mouth.

I spoke with the caller, Derrick Sanders, who told me he was woken up by a dog yelping. He looked out his window and observed SHAUN ANAYA outside the open front passenger door. He was punching the dog who was in the front passenger seat repeatedly. He then threw the dog to the rear of the vehicle. He walked back to the rear and the dog started yelping again. At this time, Derrick heard what sounded like a power tool being started in the rear of the vehicle. Shortly after this I arrived and confronted SHAUN ANAYA.

North Carolina: Willie Tomlin arrested on several charges, including Animal Cruelty

NORTH CAROLINA -- A 37 year-old man was arrested on several charges Wednesday after deputies responded to a home near Clayton. Animal control officers also seized a small dog from the home.

Officers were called to assist a woman remove some of her personal belongings from a residence at an address on Breland Drive.

While on the scene, deputies said Willie Grady Tomlin got into an altercation with the woman, then the officers.  Tomlin allegedly resisted arrest and after being detained marijuana and marijuana paraphernalia were located.

While walking through the garage, officers said they noticed a small dog being kept in a cage in the garage. The enclosure was very unsanitary, the dog was dirty and it had access to a limited amount of food and water.

Animal control officers were called to take custody of the dog.

Tomlin was charged with domestic assault, possession of marijuana, resisting arrest, and cruelty to animals. Bail was set at $6,500.

Indiana: For weeks, convicted felon Lemontrae Bible, 24, beat a tiny puppy, breaking multiple bones, say police

INDIANA -- A man has been arrested and charged with severely beating a 4-month-old puppy so badly that he broke multiple bones.

Lemontrae Bible, 24, was arrested Friday at a home on N. Kenyon Street.

According to police reports, Bible was charged as part of an investigation into animal abuse where a 4-month-old puppy was beaten severely.

Bible’s girlfriend, Holly Brand, says he started hurting the puppy shortly after she got it for her daughter.

“He had pistol whipped her and actually had a broken tooth,” said Brand.

She says the abuse started after the puppy had an accident in their home.

“I didn’t really think it was that bad – I didn’t want to believe it. I don’t know. I should have stepped up more sooner,” said Brand.

Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department found the puppy while responding a house on N. Kenyon Street.

The puppy, named Halsey, is being cared for by Zionsville-based rescue Every Dog Counts. The group shared some of Halsey’s story on their page Thursday, along with a link to raise money for her care and recovery.

Halsey was so abused that she suffered extensive jaw and head fractures, broken bones and had to have a tube inserted so that she could get nutrients while she recovers.

“Her abuser left her with multiple skull fractures, a broken jaw, multiple broken ribs and a badly broken forearm,” the rescue posted on their Facebook page. “She sat like this for days, with no help or pain relief before she was found and rescued.”

 

 

Halsey went in for surgery on Thursday, according to the rescue, to try to save her leg, which was broken completely in two.

“Through the process of multiple diagnostic tests, we’ve realized that this has probably been going on for a while – more than one incident,” said Dr. Johnny Cross, Medical Director, VCA Advanced Veterinary Care.

“It is simply not fair for life to have been so brutal and painful for this baby,” the rescue posted.

Arizona: Family finds dog dead, hanging in mobile pet grooming van. Groomer was high on drugs, they say

ARIZONA -- A Phoenix mother said she and her children are traumatized after they found their family dog, Max, dead of an apparent hanging in a mobile pet-grooming van.

Amanda Wohland said she and two of her children discovered Max hanging from the loop used to keep a dog in place on a grooming table.

 

 

The woman who had been grooming him "was in a fetal position on the floor" of the van, she said.

"We were all very shocked," Wohland said Monday. "To go up to the van and see that was traumatic."

It was the family's first time using Roaming Rovers Mobile Grooming for Max, a 7-year-old dog they owned since he was a puppy.

Wohland said the groomer told the family the grooming would take about two hours.

Four hours rolled by. Wohland said she was worried and, with her daughter and son, went to check on Max. That's when they discovered him dead.

The van's door was locked. At first, it looked like the groomer had vanished, Wohland said. When they tried to pry the doors open, that's when Wohland first noticed the woman on the ground and called 911.

Paramedics arrived and the groomer still seemed incoherent, Wohland said.

The family is waiting on Max's autopsy.

Sgt. Alan Pfohl, Phoenix police spokesman, said Tuesday that police were investigating whether the groomer passed out because of a medical event or some other cause and whether criminal negligence was involved.

I would test her for drugs - she may have been high on drugs and passed out. Even if she were on some sort of prescribed medication, she should be held responsible. Most medications - even over the counter cough medicine - says not to operate motor vehicles, etc. while using it.

Scott McLaughlin, whose wife owns Roaming Rovers Mobile Grooming, told The Arizona Republic Monday that he would not comment on the situation until police completed their investigation.

He said the only contact he's had with the police so far was when he arrived at the scene after he was notified of the dog's death.

"Our only comment right now is we send our condolences and sincere wishes, and our hearts go out to the owners," McLaughlin said.

More people are coming forward about the same groomer.

We have had numerous news crews here to interview our family regarding the tragic death of our family dog Max who hung to death while the mobile groomer was apparently high (according to our eye witness account). The incident is currently under a thorough investigation so many of the important details are not allowed to be shared by the news media.

Once the investigation is complete, the heart breaking details will be shared and the media will release the results. If you have had any similar encounters with Roaming Rovers or any other groomers, please private message me.

More information will be shared once the investigation is completed. We will get justice and will be creating petitions to make sweeping changes to the law so that this type of tragedy does not happen again.

Florida: On probation for Aggravated Animal Cruelty, David Langford, 60, arrested after getting caught with meth

FLORIDA: Back in May 2017, David Langford was arrested and charged with Animal Cruelty.

As is typical with crimes against animals, it appears that Langford was given probation.

Less than two months later, he was arrested and charged with several crimes, all relating to his illegal drugs use.

Langford was back in court this month, charged with violating the terms of his probation (VOP). Hopefully, they'll throw him in the county jail for the rest of his sentence. However, often they simply extend their probation period and send them on their way.

Vehicle Stop Yields Drug Trafficking Arrest
Sarasota Sheriff's Office - Jul 12, 2017

The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office arrested two Sarasota men on drug charges after a traffic stop led deputies to discover methamphetamine, prescription pills and drug paraphernalia.

Tactical Unit Deputies first made contact with Edward Jimenez, DOB 05/05/73, just after 3:15 p.m., on Tuesday, when they stopped him for a traffic violation in the intersection of Beneva and Meridale Roads in Sarasota.

During a consensual search of his vehicle, deputies recovered oxycodone in the center console and a lock box under the driver’s seat containing various drug paraphernalia and nearly 10 grams of methamphetamine.

Upon search of the passenger, David Langford, DOB 07/06/57, deputies recovered a pipe, methamphetamine and various prescription pills including hydromorphone, OxyContin and Xanax. Langford also admitted to being responsible for the pill found in the center console.

Both men were arrested and transported to the Sarasota County Jail. Jimenez, of 1821 Bayonne Street, is charged with Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Sell and Possession of Narcotic Equipment. He was released Wednesday on $8,000 bond.

Langford, of 4052 Palau Drive, is charged with four counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance without a Prescription and Possession of Narcotic Equipment. He remains in custody today on $6,500 bond.
