Texas: This Beagle might have survived if police hadn't wasted time emptying an entire can of pepper spray on two attacking Pit Bulls before finally shooting and killing one of them. Too late for the Beagle, its skin had been ripped from its neck and back and it died.

TEXAS -- Authorities with the city of Shenandoah Police Department said a police officer was forced to shoot and kill a pit bull dog after it violently attacked a woman's leashed Beagle Wednesday night.

According to a news release from police officials, the incident occurred on Dec. 13 at about 9:24 p.m. near the 100 block of Bella Luce in Shenandoah, Texas.

Note: Shenandoah is about 40 minutes north of Houston, Texas

The release said Sgt. Mark Brockhoeft, a 10-year officer with the department, heard a woman screaming for help.

When Brockhoeft arrived, the report said he saw two Pit Bull dogs -a smaller beige dog and larger blue dog- attacking the woman's pet beagle, authorities said.

Police Assistant Chief Barry Gresham said Brockhoeft at first discharged an entire canister of pepper spray on the attacking dogs, but it had no effect.

Brockhoeft then pulled out his firearm and fired one shot at the dogs, who were still engaged in the attack on the beagle, Gresham said. Neither of the pit bulls was injured after the first shot, but the smaller of the two became frightened and ran off.

The larger blue-colored pit bull continued to tightly grip the woman's dog, whose wounds were so severe, that its fur began to pull away from its neck and back, police said.

Brockhoeft then fired a second shot, this time striking the blue pit bull and killing it, the report said. The officer then had to remove the injured Beagle from the dead dog's jaws.

The Beagle's owner rushed the dog to an emergency animal hospital, but due to the severe extent of the dog's injuries, it had to be euthanized, police officials said.

If the police officers hadn't wasted time emptying an entire can of pepper spray on the dogs and simply gone straight for their service weapons and shot these maulers, the Beagle might have had a chance at surviving. 

Authorities are now on the lookout for the owners of the two dogs, who "looked well fed and had collars," police said. Neither of the dogs appear to be licensed through the city, Gresham said. The dead pit bull did not have a microchip embedded in it, Gresham said.

The Shenandoah Police Department is working with the Montgomery County Animal Shelter which has opened an investigation into the incident.

The city receives anywhere from three to 10 animal calls a month, Gresham said, noting that they can be anything from stray animal calls or pets who are lost or dumped.

"If it becomes an issue, a code enforcement officer can give a resident a ticket, but usually a single warning can take care of the issue," Gresham said.

Not all the animals found are from the city of Shenandoah, he added. But incidents such as violent animal attacks are rare in the city, he said.

Police are also warning residents to be cautious while walking their leashed dogs.

If you own a dog and you take it for walks, get your concealed carry permit and take your gun with you every time! Because by the time you call police, they show up, they waste time pepper spraying the mauler and then finally shoot it, your dog will be dead.

Shenandoah Police Sergeant Forced to Shoot Vicious Dog

At approximately 9:24 P.M. on Wednesday evening, December 13, 2017, Shenandoah Police Sergeant, Mark Brockhoeft heard a woman screaming for assistance due to a vicious dog attack occurring near the 100 Block of Bella Luce in Shenandoah, Texas.

Sergeant Brockhoeft immediately stopped his patrol vehicle and intervened, as he feared the woman was being attacked. Sergeant Brockhoeft discharged an entire Capsicum spray canister at two Pit Bull dogs that were determined to be engaged in an attack on the woman’s pet Beagle. The resident was desperately attempting to protect her leashed dog.

Sergeant Brockhoeft’s initial efforts were in vain as the Capsicum spray had no effect on the two attacking dogs. Sergeant Brockhoeft was then forced to draw his service weapon and fire at the attacking dogs. Sergeant Brockhoeft was able to frighten a smaller beige Pit Bull away but a larger blue Pit Bull continued the vicious attack on the Beagle. The attack nearly severed the Beagle’s fur coat away from the neck and back area of the injured animal.

Sergeant Brockhoeft fired a second shot at the blue Pit Bull striking the animal and killing it. Sergeant Brockhoeft was then able to remove the Beagle from the jaws of the blue Pit Bull and he wrapped the animal in a towel as it was still alive. The animal’s owner then rushed the Beagle to an animal hospital but unfortunately, the Beagle had to be euthanized due to the severity of the injuries sustained during the Pit Bull attack.

The Shenandoah Police Department and Montgomery County Animal Control Officers are investigating this incident. The blue Pit Bull that was killed by Sergeant Brockhoeft had no tags or chip. The smaller beige Pit Bull escaped into the night and it is unknown if the two dogs are co-owned by a single owner, owned by different owners, simply at large, or if the Pit Bull dogs were abandoned in the area. Sergeant Brockhoeft stated, “the dogs looked well fed and had collars”.

Chief Raymond Shaw believes Sergeant Brockhoeft did all he could in his efforts to save the resident’s beloved animal at great risk to his own safety. This incident shows that is important to be cautious while walking dogs. If you observe an animal at large in the municipality, please contact the Shenandoah Police Department or Montgomery County Animal Control. Municipal ordinance requires that all pets be leashed while on walks and not be allowed to be at large. Washington: Stolen cat found with head crushed in Shoreline dumpster; search on for animal abuser

WASHINGTON -- Police are investigating after a cat named 'Quixote' was stolen from a cat rescue in Shoreline, Washington and then found dead in a nearby dumpster with his head crushed and "every bone in his body appears to be broken."

Around 12 p.m. Tuesday, a volunteer with the Whisker City Cat Rescue called police when she noticed an outside cat shelter had been broken into and the cat which had been housed inside was missing, according to KCPQ.

Shoreline Police responded and, on the floor, found a blood-stained, blue blanket and a yellow poncho with green writing on it. The blood stains on the blanket made them immediately think someone had hurt him. Or that it might be the killer's blood.

"My guess is (Quixote) put up a struggle," Whisker City founder April Brown wrote on Facebook.

Just before 5 p.m., the employee called police again and said she found the missing cat dead in the facility's dumpster. The cat’s head had been crushed and Brown wrote on Facebook that "every bone in his body appears to be broken."

King County Animal Control was advised and Shoreline police returned to the scene.

“We all feel a tremendous amount of guilt because we felt so safe here,” said Whiskey City Cat Rescue Executive Director April Brown.

The sanctuary Brown tried to create has been violated by someone bent on violence.

“You have to be pretty sick to violently beat a cat that can’t get away from you,” said Brown.

The 1-year-old cat named Quixote had been at the shelter temporarily, only a couple of months.

His owner showed up Wednesday morning, but he was too shaken to make a statement.

“That cat did not have a chance,” said Brown. “He couldn’t get away.”

According to Brown, someone had to break open a padlock to gain access to the cat in an enclosure that resembles a tiny house.

King County sheriff’s deputies also found a yellow poncho, which had a strange message written on it.

“Homeless need homes, but not in my neighborhood,” Brown said, describing the message. “And then it said Richmond Beach, and it was handwritten.”

Richmond Beach is about an 8-minute drive to Shoreline.

Note: Those familiar with the case and this rescue have wondered if the suspect selected Quixote because he was a Savannah mix. Although he wasn't a pure Savannah cat, he likely could have been sold for, as one person stated, up to $3,000. However, if this person thought they'd just grab a docile cat and run off with it... and Quixote put up a fight when this person tried to steal him, maybe Quixote clawed, bit and fought, angering the person so much that they beat Quixote to death, took him outside and threw his crushed body into the dumpster and fled.

Police are also investigating another animal cruelty case nearby in Edmonds where a toy poodle had been stabbed to death inside of his own yard in late August.

 

 

“The way he went so violent, he had to be scared,” said that dog’s owner, Paul Hensel.

The two crime scenes are barely 2 miles apart -- but so far police say they share no connection.

“When we see something like this, we’re worried,” said Laura Henderson with Pasado’s Safe Haven Animal Rescue.

“If people in the community suspect animal cruelty is happening, they suspect that someone is harming an animal, they need to say something immediately because this kind of behavior escalates."

 

 

The volunteers at Whisker City wonder if they can do anything to regain their sense of security.

“You feel like -- do you want to buy a gun? What do you want to do?” said Brown. “How can we protect ourselves and these precious animals we’re responsible for?”

 

 

Brown said new security cameras were up and running at the shelter by Wednesday and volunteers are also trying to raise money for DNA tests to see if some of the suspect’s tissue might have been left behind as a clue.

WASHINGTON -- The owner of a toy poodle found stabbed to death and partially skinned in his own fenced in backyard on Friday, Aug. 25th feels time is running out to find the killer.

Paul Hensel has been out posting fliers along the Interurban Trail behind his home in the 23700 block of 74th Avenue offering a $7,500 reward for tips to identify the suspect who mutilated and killed Mickey.

Editor’s note: The reward has been raised since the original posting of this article from $4,000 to $7,500.

“The way he went, it was so violent and he had to have been scared,” said Hensel.

Hensel said he was sitting inside just 20 yards away with the door cracked open.

 

 

"We didn't hear anything. We think [the killer] was waiting in the yard," Hensel said of the attacker.

Mickey was a little 10-1/2-pound dog that loved everyone he met. Hensel says he liked to bark at imaginary animals.

"We've had neighbors come up in tears when they found out about it," said Hensel.

Edmonds Police initially increased patrols in the area but believe Mickey's killing is an isolated incident. Still, they are warning people to keep a close eye on their pets and asking for leads on any suspicious people on the Interurban Trail.

"If anybody knows someone who may have a tendency to hurt animals or so forth, that's something we would like to know about. That's something that would be helpful information and point us in the right direction," said Sgt. Shane Hawley.

So, how could somebody be so cruel?

Pasado's Safe Haven is funding a third of the reward because they know this behavior will escalate and get worse.

“As this behavior escalates, people who have crossed this moral line of being able to harm another living being, in our experience - in hundreds of these cases - it always gets worse. 

"As they progress up from one crime to the next, they are always looking for something more gruesome, more hurtful and to cause more suffering," said Executive Director Laura Henderson.

Hensel let his dog, Mickey, out in the fenced-in backyard Friday at about 10 p.m. in the 23700 block of 74th Ave.

“At first I couldn’t find him and I was afraid he found a way out of the yard so I got a flashlight and I found his body here in the yard,” said Hensel.

A huge part of Mickey’s skin and fur had been removed.

 

 

“Looked like a puncture wound with a knife removal of the skin so we rushed down the animal surgical hospital and had the vets there confirm it was not an animal. He was killed,” said Hensel.

No one heard the dog yelp or scream.

 

 

“I just don’t understand it. It almost looks like a trophy they took and trophies are meant to be shown to people so maybe they will see this and call Edmonds Police,” said Hensel.

The family lives along the Interurban Trail.

“The police think it’s someone who travels this trail frequently,” said Hensel.

“We will have extra patrols this in the area and officers will be paying closer attention to the trail and possibly talking to people who use it regularly,” said Edmonds Sgt. Shane Hawley.

Texas: Joseph Booth, 54, charged with animal cruelty; accused of purposely dragging his horse along the road ripping its skin off

TEXAS -- A Killeen man, later identified as Joseph Edward Booth, 54, was arraigned Monday on a charge of cruelty to a livestock animal.

Killeen police received a call May 17 about a horse running behind a trailer on Trimmier Road, and then shortly after received another call regarding a maroon Silverado truck and a bloody horse near Charles Patterson Middle School, according to the affidavit.

While driving south on Trimmier, an officer observed a maroon truck pulling a horse trailer, and entering a driveway on Trimmier, according to the report.

The officer reported he identified the driver as Joe Booth, who advised he needed to restrain his horse, according to the affidavit.

The officer then observed that the horse had large patches of hair removed, a deep cut, missing flesh above his left eye and blood on the horse’s left front side, injuries consistent with being dragged along the ground, according to the report.

The officer spoke with Booth, who said he was pulling his horse behind the truck and horse trailer when he CLAIMS was informed by a person on a motorcycle that his horse had fallen, according to the affidavit.

Oh yes, the whole "I didn't know!" defense.

Two witnesses reported seeing the truck traveling at about 35 to 40 mph, with a horse tied to the back of the trailer being dragged, according to the affidavit.

One of the witnesses reported observing that a motorcyclist had to force the pickup driver to finally stop, according to the report.

The officer said he spoke with a veterinarian who came to treat the horse, who stated the injuries, road rash and lacerations, were consistent with being dragged on a road, according to the report.

Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke set Booth’s bond at $20,000 on Monday.

Apparently Joe Booth has serious anger issues, along with drug arrests.

Killeen man threatens driver with gun in road rage incident

A 50-year-old Killeen man upset that someone was slowing him down from getting his horses to the vet has been arrested for deadly conduct. Joseph Booth is accused of waving a handgun at another driver during a road rage incident on Christmas Eve.

A driver of a black Mercedes called police around noon Monday after the incident occurred on Highway 190 near Nolanville.  The driver gave the operator a description of the suspected truck pulling a horse trailer.

Deputies found the truck, and stopped it. The driver, Booth, explained to deputies that he was angry the driver of the Mercedes was driving under the speed limit in the fast lane. After talking to Booth, police searched his vehicle and recovered a .22 caliber revolver, a loaded shotgun, and a controlled substance under four grams.

Booth was transported to the Bell County Jail, but was allowed to call a friend to take care of the horses.

I need to ask for your prayers for my baby Miya. She was attacked by a pit bull yesterday. He ripped off the skin on her shoulder. She underwent emergency surgery last night. She made it through the surgery, and hopefully she will have a speedy recovery. Thank god my mom was there to apply pressure and get her home. A kind couple saw what happened and stopped to help. They gave my mom a ride back the house and we got Miya to the pet hospital. I dont have the names of the people that helped. Hopefully this will get shared and it will make its way to them. Thank you so much!!

My mom Felina Vasquez was walking our dogs last night. When she saw the pit bull she got down on her knees to cover our dogs. The littlest dog, Doo-dah, got away from my mom and the pit bull was headed straight for her. Miya ran over and lied down on top of her to protect her and thats when the pit bull got her.

The attack happened on the corner of michigan and washington in southgate ca between 6:45 and 7:15 last night

Yesterday (2/14/17) between 6:45 and 7:15 my mother was walking our 4 dogs. She was on the corner of Washington and Michigan in Southgate ca. A pit bull came out from behind a truck and started running toward her and our babies (our dogs). My mom got down on her knees to cover them and protect them from the pit bull. Our littlest dog, Doo-dah, got away from my mom and the pit bull started running for her. That's when my dog, Miya, ran out from under my mom and jumped on top of Doo-dah, using her body to shield her. The pit bull then grabbed Miya and started trying to pull her away from my mom. In doing so, he ripped the skin completely off of her shoulder. The owner of the pit bull then ran out and was asking my mother if she was ok. A couple was driving by in a car and they stopped to help her. She told the man to get away and get his dog out of there. She then grabbed Miya and applied pressure to he wound. The couple then decided that the gentleman would give my mom a ride back to our house and the woman was going to walk our dogs back for us. When my mom got home she came and got me and told me what had happened and that I need to find an animal emergency room right away. We called and we were able to find one down the street from our house and we headed right over. While we were there, my husband and my brother called 911 and animal control. 

Animal control and 911 both told us that there was nothing they could do because no human was injured. 

Miya underwent emergency surgery last night and it was successful. We now are left with the bill for both her surgery and her after care.

Please help. We cannot afford this on our own. Miya is a hero and she doesnt deserve to be put down because of the expenses. None of this money is going toward me or my family. It will all go to help my baby. I just want to get her the help he needs. Any extra funds will be put towards a charity to help abused animals. Any amount you can give will help. Thank you.

The funds are needed by the 3rd of March.

HANOVER, PA

Folks, Molly is a very sweet, unassuming, quiet Jack Russell Terrier, 9 years old who was attached last night by a neighbor's dog "mistakenly let out" while Molly's owner had her out for her daily evening walk.

This will involve major vet care to save her life. Molly's owners, Guy and Cathy Armiger can not afford the care involved. Molly didn't deserve this. Please, please help if you can. And thank you so much.

Ok all. Exciting news! As of Friday evening, the vet was able to stretch Molly's skin after hyperbaric chamber treatments to cover close to 75% of her neck.

  

  

 Molly had also yanked out her nasal feeding tube on her own and began to eat of her own accord. With that, the surgeon decided to allow Molly to go home today!

She will be returned to Care Vet Center on Tuesday for additional hyperbaric chamber treatment and stretching and/or skin grafts but, she can spend her evenings in the comfort of her own home. She is clearly elated as she has been resting all afternoon.
