Virginia: Brandon Gillie wanted for torturing, mutilating, killing puppies

VIRGINIA -- It was last spring when Petersburg Police were called to Trailer 32 at the Shady Grove mobile home park on North Steadman Road.

They found a gruesome scene where three puppies had been mutilated, tortured and killed.

  

 

They are now reaching out to the public in an attempt to put the man they say is responsible, Brandon Gillie, 26, behind bars.

"[Gillie and his girlfriend] had just gotten the puppies a few weeks prior," said Detective Thomas Ewers with the Petersburg Police Department.

“He forced them to swallow several items, including firecrackers and poison,” Detective Ewers said.

But the torture didn’t stop there, police say. While the puppies were still alive, Gillie dismembered and mutilated the dogs. It all happened in the back yard of a now abandoned trailer.

“He cut their bodies open, and when he cut their bodies open, he also tried to glue it back together,” Ewers said. “He put glue over the dogs’ faces, including their muzzle, I guess in an attempt keep the dogs from being loud or trying to suffocate them.”

"It was a process, we're not talking about a couple minutes of torturing, we're talking about hours and hours of him methodically torturing and killing these animals," said Ewers.

Brandon's girlfriend discovered what he had done and called the police to report it. However, she is no longer cooperating with authorities, police said, and Gillie remains on the run.

“This is probably the worse case I’ve seen or heard of since I’ve been a detective,” Detective Ewers said.

Gillie’s next door neighbor recalls hearing Gillie sitting outside talking during the night in question, but she had no idea what he was actually doing.

NECROPSY RESULTS

Court documents obtained by CBS 6 show the dogs had an adhesive material on their muzzles and bodies.

Lab results revealed the dog's stomachs contained both over the counter and prescription medications, as well as insecticide.

Conover said that what happened to the puppies was done over a period of time.

"They were tortured, there was evidence of burning," she added.

The necropsy also revealed that two of the puppies had full firecrackers in their stomach.

HELP FIND BRANDON GILLIE

Police say they need the public’s help catching Gillie before he has the chance to do something like this again.

“It could lead to other crimes that could be worse. It could be to other animals, it could be to a person – you just never know, and it’s very concerning,” Ewers said.

Gillie has a large network of family and friends spread out around Chesterfield and Henrico.

"He still could be in the Tri-Cities area, most likely he's up in the Hanover and Ashland area," said Ewers.

Police are hoping someone has information that will help get Brandon Gillie off the streets.

"To get him help and make sure that he is okay and nothing like this happens to any animal or person."

Trinidad and Tobago: Animals are being maimed and killed by firecrackers being shoved into their mouths

TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO -- An  animal welfare activist shared horrific photos of a cat which was tortured by an unknown person, who forced a firecracker to explode in the animal’s mouth.

The animal was so injured that it had to be put down.

Rona Jo shared the gruesome photos on social media on November 8 to show the horrific act – as yet, no one has been held for the crime.

“PEOPLE BEWARE. I THOUGHT THIS DID NOT HAPPEN HERE. THESE PICTURES ARE NOT FOR THE FAINTHEARTED BUT IT NEEDS TO BE POSTED.”

“On arriving home at 9:30 pm tonight, I was greeted with a box in front my gate. My first thought someone had dropped kittens. No it was an adult cat which I thought then had gotten bounced.”

“It was the same color as two of my cats, so I guess whoever put it there thought it belonged to me.”

“I got the vet who came in a few minutes to assess.

Verdict: Apparently he was an owned friendly, trusting cat in good health.”

 

 

“BUT SOME LOWLIFE BASTARD, DEVIL PUT A FIRECRACKER IN ITS MOUTH. It was totally burnt and one of the eyes popped out.... The pain and trauma that the cat was in was heartbreaking. I can't sleep right now. RIP boy.”

Citizens shared disgust and horror at the despicable act. They are again calling for a crackdown on illegal fireworks:

“Monsters! How can someone even put a thought in their mind to do such a thing! Poor baby.”

“Humans, I don't know if they understand, that kind of evil you do, you pay for that immediately, right here on this earthly plain before you leave.”

“What kinda sadistic fool did this to a poor animal... Disgusting....”

“Monsters and demons walk among us, and despite protests against fireworks authorities are doing NOTHING, and therefore they encouraging this sh*t”

“Jesus!!!!!!! I am calling on you now more than ever,I think the human race is at our lowest ever.”

Another woman reported that a similar act had been done to a dog in her neighborhood as well.

Rona said this is just one of many acts of terrible cruelty against animals which must be stopped.

”It’s heartbreaking that I had to deal with it, but I'm glad that the poor cat was was brought in front my gate, not left wherever it was to suffer for the whole night in pain and traumatized.”

“It’s horrible enough that the animals suffer so much because of these senseless loud noises, but to do this to the animals is the lowest of low. Only the devil himself would do such a thing.”

Section 16 of the Summary Offences Act states:
 Any person who unlawfully and maliciously kills, maims, or wounds any dog, bird, beast or other animal, not being cattle but being either the subject of larceny at Common Law or ordinarily kept in a state of confinement or for any domestic purpose, is liable on first conviction to a fine of one thousand dollars over and above the amount of the injury done or to imprisonment for three months and on any subsequent conviction to imprisonment for six months.

Section 79 (1) of the Act states:
“Any person who cruelly beats, ill-treats, starves, overdrives, overrides, overloads, abuses, tortures, or otherwise maltreats any animal is liable to a fine of four hundred dollars or to imprisonment for two months.”

Today a friend called me to check on a dog in chaguanas. This poor dog belonged to someone but she was betrayed, a firecracker was placed in her mouth, it was totally destroyed she has been like this since divali, she vould not eat or drink, she was smelling from a mile away so nobody helped, but thank you to my friend Renae John for calling me, dr. Lutchman for attending to her and M&L liquor for paying her bill. This young beautiful pup had to be euthanized. Pennsylvania: Taylor Geib, 21, Austin Garner, 21, and unnamed juvenile, 17, thought it would be funny to blow up a poor turtle

PENNSYLVANIA -- A turtle was killed by suspects accused of exploding two M-80 firecrackers on its shell in Lancaster County.

The explosion happened at 6:55 p.m. Aug. 3 in the 1100 block of North Penryn Road, Penn Township, Northern Lancaster County Regional Police said Wednesday.

The suspects are accused of placing two M-80 firecrackers on the shell of the turtle and lighting the fuse, causing the death of the reptile, police said.

A crater was found, in what appeared to be remains of a large turtle, including bone fragments and biological remains. Witnesses provided a description of a truck seen at the scene, and police were able to identify three suspects.

Charged were Taylor James Geib, 21, of the first block of North Colebrook Road, Manheim; Austin Mathew Garner, 21, of the 2000 block of Mountain Road, Manheim; and a 17-year-old juvenile, whose name was not provided by police.

The turtle wasn't a pet, but a wild turtle, possibly a snapping turtle, Lt. George Pappas said. It was larger than a box turtle, but not a full-grown turtle, he said.

"They found it in a rural area, saw it and decided to do this," he said. Pappas said he doesn't know the motive for the stunt. "Young and poor judgment," he surmised.

The suspects were charged with prohibited offensive weapons and criminal conspiracy.

Pappas said animal cruelty charges can only be filed for domesticated and zoo animals under the Pa. Crimes Code.

The Pa. Fish and Boat Commission has been notified, and further charges could be filed, Pappas said. Turtles, which are reptiles, fall under that agency, rather than the Pa. Game Commission.

Eric Levis, Fish & Boat Commission spokesman, said they are reviewing the case, and charges could be filed.

Arizona: Joseph Schneider arrested for allegedly shooting neighbor's dog with pellet gun

ARIZONA -- A Phoenix man was arrested after he allegedly shot his neighbor’s dog with a pellet gun.

Police say that back in December, the victim was in his backyard when he heard the sounds of a pellet gun being fired from the direction of the home of his neighbor, Joseph Thomas Schneider, 35.

The victim’s rottweiler, which had reportedly been sitting quietly on a covered, outdoor pool table at the time, then yelped and jumped off the table.

The victim says he saw Schneider duck down from his second-story window and close it. Schneider then got in his car and drove away,

The victim took his dog to the vet, who found that the dog had been shot in the shoulder by a pellet gun. The pellet was still embedded deep in the dog’s flesh.

Later, another pellet was found in the dog’s neck.

Schneider has denied shooting the dog or even owning a pellet gun, according to the police report.

The victim says for about the past two years, he and Schneider had been involved in a dispute about the dog barking.

The victim says the neighbor had blasted an air horn over the fence that separates the two yards, and had thrown small, loud fireworks at the dog and his house.

According to court documents, the victim was able to provide police with an expended cardboard fireworks case, and a video of the dog being shot.

On Tuesday, police served a search warrant on Schneider’s home. Inside, they found mushrooms in the toilet. According to court documents,  the suspect told police they “were old hallucinogenic mushrooms which he tried to flush because he knew they were illegal and the police were on their way.”

Police say they also found a Ziploc bag containing orange pills. The suspect said they were Xanax, for which he told police he had a prescription. The police report also indicates that a blue pill in a plastic bag was found in Schneider’s pants pocket.

When police found evidence of apparent heroin use, Schneider told police that he had, in fact, smoked heroin but not for about 4-6 months, according to court documents.

Police say they also found a scale with a white, powdery substance and several glass vials. The court documents read: “The defendant stated the contents were old steroid he used to take in college (2008) but he had just not disposed of it yet.”

Police also found a large bag of firecrackers in the garage.

Schneider faces charges of inflicting physical injury on an animal, possession/use of drug paraphernalia, and dangerous drug violations.

Texas: Family fights to get dogs back that were tortured and abused by teens in the home

TEXAS -- A family will have to wait a little longer to find out if they will get to keep their dogs.

Last week two dogs were seized from a Corpus Christi home after video surfaced showing two teens throwing fireworks near a dog which was tied up.

Wednesday the 18-year-old seen in the video apologized for his actions.

 

 

His mother told the court the dog in the video belongs to her autistic son and he wants it back.

The judge also heard testimony from the woman who recorded the video and the Animal Control officer who picked up the dogs from the home.

 

Thursday, the judge will hear from the vet that treated the dogs and possibly the dog's owners before making a decision.

TEXAS -- Animal Care Services officers are seizing two dogs from a home where people were seen popping off fireworks near an animal while it was tied up.

Home surveillance video of the incident was provided to KRIS6 News this week. The homeowner was very disturbed by the behavior of the children next door.

  

 

 

 

The video shows a 18-year old man and 13-year old girl in their backyard. A tied up dog tries to run away as the fuse to a firecracker is lit, but it has no chance.

The man then came back and lit more fireworks next to the dog. It appears that a girl was recording everything herself while the man used the fireworks.

Animal Care Services obtained the warrant to take custody of the dogs and did so Friday afternoon.

 

  

 

The dogs were taken to Animal Control for evaluation. The family will have to appear in court in 10 business days if they want to try and get their dogs back.

Once the police finish their investigation, they will work with the District Attorney to decide on the charges against the people in the video.

Illinois: Nicholas Garcia, 24, Killed Neighbor’s Pit Bull Dog With Firecracker, Only Charged With Damaging Property

ILLINOIS -- The Fourth of July holiday is supposed to be one for celebrating independence. Some people set off fireworks as part of the revelry. Only someone with evil intentions would attempt to purposely harm a living creature with the fireworks.

Nicholas Garcia, 24, along with another unnamed suspect set off fireworks behind a home located at 257 E. Jackson Street in Joliet, Illinois, on July 7.

The men “enticed” a neighbor’s pit bull to pick up a firecracker at about 10:50 a.m. The dog showed interest and, unfortunately, did pick a live one up. Garcia reportedly laughed when the dog’s firework exploded in its mouth.

The injuries the dog sustained were so severe, the dog had to be euthanized, according to the Examiner.

The two men fled the scene after the dog was harmed.

Deputy Chief Ed Gregory said that the incendiary device blew off the dog’s upper jaw and part of its lower jaw.

The pit bull’s owner witnessed the horrific deed. The owner tried to intervene but, by the time he was able to, the dog had suffered the terrible injuries.

It’s unimaginable to conceive the shock the owner must have felt for a beloved pet. An investigation is ongoing. However, currently, Garcia is only subject to charges for damaging someone’s property. The warrant for his arrest carries a $50,000 bond.

Aggravated animal cruelty is a Class 4 felony, which is punishable by between three and six years in prison, according to The Times Weekly. It’s not clear that Garcia or the other suspect will face such charges.

The story about the dog’s suffering has gone viral on social media. There are currently online petitions posted on Facebook to try to get justice for the dog and its owner, with over 35,000 signatures.
