Canada: Corgi named Doug and his owner attacked by loose Pit Bull at park

CANADA -- Last night when I was walking my seven-month old corgi in Rockcliffe-Smythe park, an off-leash pit bull ran out of a forested area and bit my dog at the neck.

My dog was swung around for a good five seconds before its owner came running along to help me restrain the pit bull.

Luckily, the pit bull was wearing a pronged collar and none of the injuries sustained by animal or human are life-threatening.

I got off with a few bite marks on my hand and the owner says his finger might be broken. Doug (my dog) sustained the brunt of the attack, with lacerations down the back of his neck and puncture wounds on his cheek.

I imagine though that, had the pit bull not been wearing a pronged collar, the outcome would have been way more severe.

I'm just wondering if there is any way to make this case heard. The ban on pronged collars was passed haphazardly by misinformed Toronto city councillors and puts public safety at risk. Dog owners -- particularly those with larger, more aggressive breeds -- must be given the tools necessary to ensure the safety of anyone that comes into contact with their animal. #Toronto #corgi #pitbull

"My son was attacked by our rescue dog, a Pit bull, and ended up needing 16 stitches"

UNITED STATES -- I found this posted on Imgur. Imgur, for some reason, is very "pro Pit Bull". Photos of cutesy Pibbles and Pitties with pacifiers in their mouths get thousands of upvotes. This poor woman's honest post about their Pit Bull rescue dog attacking her son ended up with negative points. Reddit is the exact same way. In their subreddit called r/aww it's inundated with ridiculous photos of Pit Bulls that end up with thousands of upvotes. Yet if anyone says ANYTHING about Pit Bulls attacking people/pets, they're downvoted to oblivion. I give this woman credit for leaving this post up despite the hate she received although I'm not too happy about her apologist comments about loving pit bulls.

"Even though it was unprovoked and could have been devastating to his eye/tear duct/face in general...I still love pit bulls and would advocate for them.

"This pit singled him out for reasons unknown to us and would corner him. He has 4 other brothers and sisters... one of which is only 2 who would seem like a more likely candidate for the dog to try to corner but... who knows what the dogs deal was.

"Unfortunately, because of his injury and not wanting this to happen to any other children, we put the dog down.

"He was a super sweet dog, very well behaved otherwise.... leash trained. We got him from a guy who was going to move into an apartment that didn't allow dogs and he was going to have him put down.

"This is Sarge."

Some of the comments:

MasterOfMSPaint: "Are you sure your son didn't bully his sibling or harass the dog? It's very common for children to do that."

HorriblyInnapropriateComments: "I hate to tell you this, but your kid is lying when he says he didn't do anything to the dog."

MartyAlexander: "How nice. Perhaps cps needs to check u out. A vicious dog mauls your child. Both dog and children need to be kept away from you"

Hoplessromanticunderyourbed: "Shitty Parent Getting a Rescue dog without doing proper background checks on the dog. Fuck i hope you lose your children. I can't believe."

guardingangel: "That's strange... Dogs rarely just attack without warning signs...

ShagShaftShuffleBum: "Or without being provoked."

shaggiedoo: "'Pit bulls' or whatever you call them are dangerous dogs. They've been too closely bred and are now, essentially, mentally unstable"

MedicLeftEye: "I'm a paramedic, I've transported several people bitten by dogs and every one of them was attacked by pit bulls."

ShakerMcGuirk: "Dog needs to go."

IrisSnapper: "If only @op did just that and give him back for adoption, nope instead he killed him."

Comment by the little boy's mom:
BinxTheCat: "and for the record, the cops didn't give me any options but If i had a choice, i would put a dog down that crossed that boundry anytime.. I would always choose my childrens safety over an animals life."

IrisSnapper: "Yes and giving the dog back is a valid option I get you didn't have it, but it's not like you would have picked it so yeah your a bad human."

Comment by the little boy's mom:
BinxTheCat: "my rationale was that if i allowed the animal to live and it attacks say...a toddler and rips its face off...that would be bad..right?"

I don't blame the breed, the owner was very gracious and helped pay for the bills. My pup approached too quickly, but didn't attack.

Oh poor baby :( Remember don't blame the breed, blame the deed!
