(November 2017) California: Enping Qu, 22, poured boiling water FIVE TIMES onto a screaming dog that was locked in a cage, say police

CALIFORNIA -- Two 17-year-old teens at a Chino Valley park called sheriff’s officials after they watched and video recorded a man at a nearby apartment building pouring scalding water on a caged dog Tuesday evening, according to San Bernardino County sheriff’s officials.

“You could hear the horror in the girl’s voice when she said, ‘Oh my god, is that boiling water?’ ” said Deputy Dan Renear on Wednesday.

Enping Qu pouring boiling water on the dog locked in its cage

The teens were in Pinehurst Park around 5 p.m. when Renear said they heard a dog whimpering.

The 17-year-old boy and girl looked around and spotted the caged dog on the third-story balcony of a nearby apartment building, which was more than 50 yards away.

That’s when Renear said the pair saw a man, later identified as 22-year-old Enping Qu, use a tea kettle to pour water over his girlfriend’s dog.

Renear and a trainee, Dominic Ramirez, tracked down the right unit at the apartment in the 16000 block of Butterfield Ranch Road.

Qu, who spoke very limited English, allowed the deputies into the apartment, where they found the dog, still wet and warm, in the cage in the balcony.

Using Google translator on their phones, deputies learned the dog belonged to Qu’s girlfriend, who was at school, Renear said.

As Ramirez spoke to Qu, Renear spotted an electric tea kettle on a warming plate that had been turned off.

“But when I touched it, that thing was still scorching hot. I couldn’t even put my hand on it,” he said.

Because the complex is fairly new and doesn’t show up on all maps, Renear said it took Inland Valley Humane Society officers more than an hour to arrive at the complex.

Note: Seriously, this is the most ridiculous thing I've heard in a long time. You couldn't find the address so you drove around for "more than an hour"?

A Google Maps search shows exactly where the apartment complex is it:

I can't imagine the police just standing around FOR MORE THAN AN HOUR while this little dog, with its burned skin and in horrible pain (they say burn injuries are the most painful of all injuries)... just sat there and suffered.

“But even after an hour and a half or an hour and 15 minutes, when they tested the water — even after all that time — it was 129 degrees,” Renear said.

Detectives learned Qu poured hot water on the dog five times, according to a sheriff’s statement.

Qu claimed to deputy he "didn't know the water was that hot" and that, the other times he was seen pouring water from the tea kettle over and over onto the dog was, according to him, he "tried to add cold water".

Qu was arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty and animal control officers took possession of the dog. It’s unclear if the dog will be returned to its owner, Renear said.

Records indicate Qu was released on bail.

“I’m a dog-lover and it makes you angry,” Renear said. “It was a very sweet and loving little dog.”

Qu, 22, was arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty. Qu quickly posted bail and was released.

Note: Did Mommy and Daddy give him the money? Many Asian countries, including China, don't have animal cruelty laws. They can do whatever they want to animals without repercussion - that's why they boil dogs alive. Likely, he thought he could do whatever he wanted to animals here in the United States without repercussion -- or he simply didn't care.

Mississippi: GUILTY! LaDerrick Rostchild, 24, and Larry Rostchild Jr., 43, filmed themselves killing a cat by scalding it with boiling water

MISSISSIPPI -- Two men have been jailed and ordered to work in an animal shelter when they get out for torturing a cat that was later found dead and having their abuse recorded.

Larry Rostchild, 43, and Laderrick Rostchild, 24, were both sentenced after appearing in a Moss Point, Mississippi, court on Tuesday.

The 43-year-old pleaded guilty to simple abuse, and was ordered to 30 days in jail and a $1,000 fine.

His 24-year-old nephew was found guilty of aggravated animal abuse, and was sentenced to six months in the county jail (not prison) and a $2,500 fine.

Just like the Stanford rapist, he'll likely only have to serve 1/3 of that -- 2 months -- and he'll be a free man.

It is the harshest possible penalty that can be handed down for the charges.

Mississippi, I believe, has the worst animal protection laws in the United States.

Municipal Judge Keith Miller also ordered both men to complete 200 hours of community service at the Jackson County Animal Shelter, according to WLOX.

They have just 72 hours from when they are released to report to the shelter to start their work.

A third person, 23-year-old Karmen Coleman, has pleaded not guilty to rendering criminal assistance.

Coleman posted a shocking video of the abuse on Facebook in December last year, which showed the cat being trapped in a cage and having boiling water poured on it.

The cat could be heard crying in agony as it was scalded and its skin melted.

The poor animal was then found dead, buried under a house in December - the day after the abuse took place.

SCALDED TO DEATH
Tests carried out on the cat found it suffered thermal burns over the majority of its body, according to the Sun Herald.

Mississippi: LaDerrick Rostchild, 24, tracked down and arrested, charged for his role in the torture death of a cat

MISSISSIPPI -- Moss Point Police have arrested the final suspect wanted for his role in the scalding of a cat that caught the eyes of many on social media.

According to Special Operations Cmdr. Stacey Deans, investigators acted on a tip that led them to the whereabouts of 24-year-old, LaDerrick Rostchild, of Moss Point. Police located Rostchild at an apartment complex located at 6525 Shortcut Rd. where he was arrested without incident.

The origin of this case dates back to Dec. 13 when a viral video involving the cat circulated on social media. The video was shared on the social media platform, Snapchat, and then spread to Facebook, where at that time, amassed a viewership of over 22,000.

An address unveiled in the video's comments yielded a Moss Point street name and address. After Pascagoula residents were alerted to the video, they then alerted the Pascagoula Police Department Facebook page, who in turn notified the Moss Point police about the video, which started their investigation.

Dec. 14, the dead cat was found not too far from the residence which the scalding took place. That address later led police to a home in the 6200 block of Henry St. in Moss Point where investigators found supporting evidence which signified the scalding happened at that residence.

Jackson County District Attorney Tony Lawrence then became involved in the case on Dec. 20 where he released a statement citing the numerous calls he had received from concerned citizens.

"What is depicted in the video is disturbing and cruel. I can ensure that this matter will be taken seriously and handled in accordance with the law," Lawrence said.

Police began to follow leads which led them to their first suspect, 23-year-old Karmen Coleman. Coleman was charged with rendering criminal assistance and later turned herself in Dec. 23.

After further investigation, police named Larry Rostchild Jr., 43, and Laderrick as additional suspects for committing an act of animal cruelty. Larry later surrendered Dec. 28.

If convicted, Coleman could face up to a year in jail and $1,000 fine - both men were charged with aggravated cruelty to an animal, face up to six months in jail, and a $2,500 fine.

Moss Point Police thanked the community, Pascagoula Police Department, Jackson County Sheriff Department and the Jackson County District Attorney's Office for their support in this investigation that led to the apprehension of the suspects.

Mississippi: Uncle and nephew are hunted by police after they filmed themselves killing a cat by pouring boiling water on it

MISSISSIPPI -- Police in Mississippi are hunting two men who they say poured scalding hot liquid on a cat trapped in a cage and filmed the horrific spectacle.

The video was posted on Snapchat earlier this month and Karmen Coleman, 23, turned herself in on Friday and removed the clip after being warned she faced charges of rendering criminal assistance.

But police in Moss Point have now issued arrest warrants for 43-year-old Larry Rostchild Jr and his nephew Laderrick, 24, after charging them in their absence with aggravated cruelty to an animal.

Commander Stacey Deans said the cat was later found dead.

An autopsy later revealed the cat suffered thermal burns on most of its body. -- basically it was scalded to death

The pair could face fines of up to $2,500 and up to six months in jail.

The video was posted on Ms Coleman's Snapchat feed, with a caption reading: 'They hell man' and a laughter emoji.

An older man appears on the left hand side of the screen, as the terrified black and white cat chases frantically around the cage, mewing and hissing at its tormentors.

The man kicks the cage and then a second man's hand appears from the right hand side and pours a scalding hot liquid, probably water, onto the animal, which has no means of escape. Steam can be seen rising from the cage.

Animal lovers in Mississippi and further afield were outraged when the video emerged earlier this month.

Jourden Thigpen, who lives in nearby Biloxi, wrote on Facebook: 'How horrible and upsetting that people can be this way! Who in their right mind would ever think that it's okay to treat an animal like this!

'If the tables were turned and it was you being treated like this you would want justice! Well I want the exact same! It's only fair right?'

Barbara Marut wrote underneath: 'This person should be put in a cage and have the same thing done to him or her. So sad.'

Jeanne Foley added: 'Anyone involved in this and okaying this is Sick and Evil. Anyone that gets a joy out of hurting another living being, animal or human.

'Or thinking its funny and enjoying watching whether in person or tape. You seriously have a problem and need help. That means you have no soul. You can't believe in God and do evil or okay evil.'

WHAT ABOUT HER BOYFRIEND?

Pascagoula mother and son arrested over the weekend in connection with copper theft

MISSISSIPPI -- A mother and son from Pascagoula were arrested by two different police agencies over the weekend, according to authorities.

Jackson County Deputy Glenn Clark was patrolling the unincorporated area of Moss Point at 6:30 a.m. Saturday when he spotted a man trying to dismantle one of the outside air conditioning units at Orange Lake Elementary, Sheriff Mike Byrd said.

The school was closed last year as part of the Moss Point School District restructuring.

"He was trying to steal the copper air conditioning coils so he could sell them," Byrd said.

The suspect ran and Clark was unable to catch him, but found a vehicle the man left behind, Byrd said.

The vehicle was registered to Tamika Rothschild (Tamika Rostchild), of Monaco Lake Drive in Pascagoula, Byrd said.

Byrd said as Clark was checking the vehicle's license plate, Rothschild was calling the Pascagoula Police Department to report the vehicle stolen.

As a result of the Sheriff's Department's investigation, Rothschild's son, Laderrick O'Neal Rothschild, 19, also of Monaco Lake Drive, was arrested in connection to the school incident.

Laderrick Rothschild was charged on a burglary of a commercial building offense.

Tamika Rothschild was later arrested by Pascagoula police investigators on a charge of falsely reporting a crime, Byrd said.

Laderrick Rothschild remained in the Jackson County Adult Detention Center Monday afternoon awaiting an initial hearing before a county judge.

If convicted of burglary of a commercial building, Laderrick Rothschild could face up to $10,000 in fines and 10 years in prison.

Tamika Rothschild could face up to one year in jail or $1,000 fine if convicted of false reporting of a crime.

Mississippi: Police know where cat was tortured and scalded to death. Here’s why they haven’t made arrests.

MISSISSIPPPI -- Police on Friday were still investigating the scalding death of a cat, video of which went viral on Facebook earlier this week.

Police Cmdr. Stacey Deans told the Sun Herald investigators know where the scalding took place and know the woman who posted the video — which appears to have originally been made on Snapchat and then reposted on Facebook — but they want to make sure they have “the people who actually committed the criminal act.”

The video reveals a black-and-white cat in a fairly small cage sitting on the cement floor of a carport. A man taps the cage with his foot and talks to the cat.

There’s a woman’s voice as someone pours hot liquid from a pot on the caged animal and viewers can see the cat scramble wildly trying to escape. Then they empty the pot over the cage and the cat writhes frantically.

Police and animal rescuers worked to find the cat Tuesday. They said it was tame, likely a pet, and ran under a house near Gautier Street in Moss Point not far from where the scalding allegedly took place.

An animal-rescue worker retrieved cat, which had died, from under the house Wednesday morning. The necropsy indicates it died from the scalding, police said.

“I know it looks simple, but this is a real tedious case,” Deans said. “It’s not cut-and-dry just because they have the address.”

There are two people in the video, he said, and police have identified persons of interest and are looking for them on a charge of aggravated cruelty to an animal.

“We want to charge everybody involved,” he said.

Update: LaDerrick Rostchild, 24, and Larry Rostchild Jr., 43, were charged along with Karmen Coleman.

Mississippi: Cat believed tortured and scalded found dead in fetal position under house

MISSISSIPPPI -- On Wednesday morning, an injured cat police believe was doused with hot liquid was found dead under a house.

The video of the incident went viral on Facebook Tuesday. It’s been viewed more than 22,000 times and shared almost 530 times.

Moss Point police announced Wednesday they had determined where the incident took place and had collected evidence. The people shown in the video will be charged with aggravated animal cruelty, Moss Point Interim Police Chief Brandon Ashley said.

An necropsy showed the cat, which police believe was someone’s pet, suffered thermal burns over the majority of its body.

It was found under a house not far from where it had been burned.

City Animal Control wasn’t able to catch it Tuesday night.

Animal rescue volunteers gathered at the house about 9 a.m. Wednesday, and a volunteer from a Pascagoula group retrieved the cat.

Helene Hicks, with Ocean Springs’ Pink Pawz Spay and Neuter, said “a woman went under, wrapped the cat in a cloth and Animal Control confirmed it was dead and took pictures.

“It was curled in a fetal position,” Hicks said. “Very sad. It looked like a nice cat, in good shape. I’m going to say it was owned by someone because of the general condition of it.”

Moss Point police have identified persons of interest and are working to locate them, officials said.

The video caused shock and anger across social media — a black-and-white cat in a cat trap writhing and trying to run because someone is pouring something from a pot onto it.

A cat trap is a fairly small cage. In the video it is on cement at the edge of a carport in Moss Point. A man and woman are involved. She pours a pot of what looks like scalding water on the animal in the trap several times. You see the pot being emptied onto the cage at the end of the video.

The frantic cat is clearly reacting. There’s no faking that something has happened as it scrambles and writhes. The images are disturbing and readers should consider that before clicking on the video.

The man in the video sounds like he’s taunting the cat, saying, “Oooooo” over and over. It appears the cat might have been a nuisance, or done something the people didn’t like.

The video making the rounds on Facebook is a video of a video being played on a cellphone. The original video may have been posted on Snapchat.

Both the Moss Point and Pascagoula police departments received calls from concerned residents.

One Facebook comment warned viewers: “Watch with caution, but how horrible and upsetting that people can be this way! Who in their right mind would ever think that it’s okay to treat an animal like this! If the tables were turned and it was you being treated like this you would want justice! ...”

In a Facebook conversation with the woman who had the video on her page and is believed to have made the video, a Gulfport woman tries to find out what happened to the cat.

The woman, who is believed to have been part of the scalding, said: “The cat is alive n ok. I let the damn cat go ...”

Hicks told the Sun Herald, “It makes me sick. Because in Mississippi, first-offense animal abuse is a misdemeanor, these people will probably get off with a slap on the wrist.”

Update: LaDerrick Rostchild, 24, and Larry Rostchild Jr., 43, were charged - along with Karmen Coleman.

Illinois: Leon Teague, 18, gets an updated mugshot. You may remember Teague: he had his friend film him while he dumped a pot of boiling water on a friendly cat outside his house

Full Name: Leon Teague
Date: 09/29/2016
Arrest Age:18
Gender: Male
Birthdate: 12/26/1997
Height: 6'03"
Weight: 145 lbs
Charges
#1 ANIMAL TORTURE
STATUTE: 510 ILCS 70/3.03(a)

Back in Febuary, Teague thought it would be funny to have his friend film him while he took a pot of boiling water and dumped it onto a friendly cat that was meowing for food outside his house.

He wasn't laughing when police showed up and charged him with a felony count of animal torture and a misdemeanor count of depiction of animal cruelty.

In the video, the man, identified by police as Leon Teague, can be seen boiling the pot of water on a stove. He then tells someone off screen to “open the window.”

A white and brown cat can is heard meowing and then is seen at the window. The man says, “b*tch move, move,” and “get the f**k down!”

The man or a woman off camera begins making kissing noises toward the cat, which is near a litter box outside the window on a deck. The splash of the boiling water hitting the cat and deck can be heard, and the cat screams and cries out, racing around the deck. The man then tells the cat not to come back while the cat’s cries can be heard in the distance.
