Virginia: Despite the football-sized tumor killing her dog, Orquidea Tyndall claims she just didn't have any money to get her "fixed". She wants us to believe she's not just ignorant but destitute. Well, she can tell it to the judge because she's been charged with animal cruelty.

VIRGINIA -- The owner of a dog in Henrico was arrested, and neighbors shared photos of the dog on social media.

On July 10, 2017, police responded to 1819 Convair Lane for a report of a sick or injured dog.

 

 

Officers said the dog was taken to a veterinarian for treatment and was later euthanized.

Following the investigation, the dog's owner, Orquidea Margarita Tyndall, was charged with animal cruelty.

A neighbor said on July 10, in the heat of the day, she spotted an emaciated dog in her neighbor's yard on Convair Lane.

The friendly Pit Bull mix was missing fur on her hindquarters, her bones were clearly showing. She had what looked like a giant tumor hanging from her stomach nearly dragging the ground. Her nails were overgrown, causing her toes to spread (which can be painful).

 

 

Hall and others tried to feed her, but they said she would only drink water, which they filled for her four times.

"If I had of known then, which it has been several months, that the dog was in this condition, I would have called animal control sooner," she said. "But the grass is always so high over there."

The woman took pictures of the dog. Her neighbor posted the story on Facebook, and the post has been shared close to 200 times.

“I hope you feel really great about yourself, really good about yourself,” Tyndall shouted at her neighbor.

No Orquidea, you POS. I hope YOU feel good about yourself.

There’s no love lost between neighbors, and Diamond’s owner, who insists she didn’t neglect her dog.

“I”m being accused of animal cruelty and all this craziness when in all my life I’ve never even had a charge,” Tyndall said. “I loved my dog.”

Tyndall said she’d had Diamond for 14 years and knew her dog had health problems but couldn’t afford to take her to a vet.

 

“She was a very elderly dog. She was a very sick dog as well, but I was trying to save up money so I could get her fixed,” Tyndall explained. “I’ve had her since she was a puppy.”

Tyndall goes to court in October. Neighbors want her held accountable.

“I believe an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth,” a neighbor said. “That’s just how I believe but I am glad justice was served today.”

something, even if it meant euthanizing the suffering dog

I know this is going to be graphic and I'm sorry however this needs to be shared! Please share this so something can be done.

My neighbor across the street has been complaining about a slum lord rental beside her and the tenants that are there. Police have been there multiple times, they fight in the street and the grass was 4ft tall.

Well I guess they got the notice about he grass because when they mowed it she saw what she did not know was in their backyard. This is animal abuse and disgusting, they live at 1819 Convair Lane henrico va 23228.

The animal control officer Hawkins was rude and seem inconvenienced and I even called henrico county animal control to check on the dog to see if it lived or died and she would give me no information on the welfare of this dog!!! 

I also asked would charges be pressed she would not answer that. They left a note on the door and left the house.

Their is a strong odor coming from the house so who knows what is going on in there or how many other animals are there. Where are the officials when needed? 😡

VIRGINIA -- In an Henrico neighborhood full of animal lovers, finding a dog with signs of abuse was a heart-wrenching sight.

Teri Harris, another neighbor, rescues animals and did not hesitate to get the dog help. She feels this incident should send a strong message to others.

"You need to understand that it's not like a toy you buy at the store and when the novelty wears off, you put it in the corner," said Harris. "People need to be responsible for their actions."

 

 

The dog was picked up by Henrico County Animal Control, who says they are now investigating this as a case of animal abuse, but no arrests have been made at this point.

Hall and Harris are still waiting, to learn her fate, but they said they just want to help the dog to find her strength.

"If she survives, I wouldn't mind if I took her," said Harris "We'll find her a home."

Canada: Elderly Shih Tzu, suffering from renal failure and with "large open mass on his hind end" abandoned in the rain outside shelter

CANADA -- On Thursday June 15, 2017, an elderly male Shih Tzu type dog was found in the early morning hours, tethered to a post outside Calgary Humane Society.

Surveillance footage, while not sufficient to identify the offender, shows the gravely ill dog was abandoned at 10:00pm the previous evening, causing the dog, who was already suffering from end stage renal failure and a large open mass on his hind end, to spend all night out in the rain. 

Calgary Humane Society is looking for information from the public as to who owns this dog and who may have committed this act of abandonment.

Brad Nichols, Senior Manager, Animal Cruelty Investigations said, “This was a truly cowardly act. To abandon an animal in inclement weather rather than fulfil his/her legally obligatory animal care duties is an act that will not be tolerated in Calgary.

 

 

"We hope public tips will point us in the right direction so we can hold the offender accountable.”

The dog was in such severe medical distress when CHS staff found him, he was humanely euthanized at the direction of a veterinarian to end his suffering. 😢

SURVEILLANCE VIDEO:

The surveillance video isn't really helpful. At the entrance, you can see someone wander up and tie the poor dog to a pole at the entrance and then leave. It's a man and, to me, it appears to me that it's an older male (mid-40's and older) based on how the person is walking. 

Based on previous abandonment stories, I'd say this man is married, that this dog was a household pet and was slowly getting in worse medical condition, they didn't provide it with vet care and finally decided to just abandon him at the shelter. But purposely went when they were closed so they wouldn't have to try to explain why he was in such bad shape.

New Mexico: Charged with multiple counts of animal cruelty, Mary Wood and Dolores Montano to return to court May 18

NEW MEXICO -- Two cases of alleged cruelty to animals and failure to vaccinate were continued by Magistrate Court Judge Pat Casados Tuesday, one because a defendant, Dolores Montano, was ill and the other, Mary Wood, because the officer was not present.

Both cases involve animals allegedly left behind at an Alabama Avenue apartment after an eviction last October.

Dolores Montano, 66, is charged with nine counts of animal cruelty for allegedly not providing necessary sustenance to nine cats, and six counts of failure to vaccinate cats for rabies.

Mary Wood (Mary Frances Wood) is charged with two counts of animal cruelty for allegedly abandoning or failure to provide sustenance for two dogs and two counts of failure to provide proof that two dogs were vaccinated for rabies.

Pre-trial hearings have been slated for May 18.

UNITED KINGDOM -- This appalling footage shows the house of horrors where a sick and elderly dog with a huge ulcerated, bleeding tumor was kept surrounded by two feet of rubbish, rotting food and feces.

The heartbreaking video captures the moment the RSPCA discovered 16-year-old collie mix Timmy in a house in Wallasey, Merseyside, which he had been forced to use as a toilet for 'several months'.

Timmy was found with no fresh food or water and looking 'defeated' in the living room of the house, which was strewn with piles of rubbish inspectors said were two foot high.

His former owner Christine Daley has pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to a dog by failing to investigate and treat a lump on his face.

She also admitted and failing to meet the needs of a dog by failing to provide a suitable environment between 1 October and 25 October last year.

Daley, 60, was slapped with an eight week prison sentence suspended for six months, at Wirral Magistrates' Court yesterday and was also disqualified from keeping or owning any animal for 10 years and ordered to pay £1,075 in costs.

Anthony Joynes, who was the RSPCA investigator on the scene, said walking into the squalid house to a smell of ammonia so strong it 'burnt his eyelids' will stay with him forever.

Anthony said: 'The smell from the outside was bad enough and there were flies all over the house but then as we walked in the ammonia was so strong it burnt my eyelids.

'In my experience when you walk into homes where dogs have been kept in such horrific conditions, they are usually happy to see you or not happy to see you - you usually get all sorts of temperaments but Timmy just didn't react.

'He was just lying on the sofa looking so defeated, like he had completely given up. He was just this broken animal.

'The conditions he'd been left it were absolutely appalling. He was surrounded by feces and rotting food.

'It looks like he had been forced to use the house as a toilet for several months. There was no food or water and he had this horrific open and bleeding tumor on his face.

 

 

'You don't come across cases this bad very often. The smells and sights from inside that house will stick with me forever.

'It is just so heartbreaking, an old dog like Timmy should have been living out the last of his years on a nice sofa in front of a fire being cared for properly and loved.'

Timmy was discovered at the house on October 25 last year after Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service raised concerns while carrying out routine door-to-door fire safety checks.

The smell coming from the house was so bad that fire crews forced entry to the property and alerted the RSPCA when they found Timmy inside.

Since his rescue, Timmy has defied all the odds for a dog his age, making a full recovery from surgery on the tumor on his face.

The rescue dog is now living out his days on a farm with a family who 'adore' him.

Anthony said: 'It is such a relief that fire crews took action when they did. I can only assume from the smell and the flies, they thought there was a deceased person inside the house.

'If we had found Timmy just a week or two later, there is no telling what we would have been dealing with.

'For a dog of Timmy's age that had been given such an appalling level of care from his owner, his chances of survival were not looking good.

'If the cancerous tumor on his face had been attached to any bone or if the cancer had spread at all, the vets only option would have been euthanasia.

'But we went ahead with the surgery and Timmy has pulled through it all. He has fought to survive and jumped over ever hurdle put in front of him.

'I was worried that a dog of his age was going to struggle to find a new home but a family has taken him in and they absolutely adore him, he is such a loving dog.

'It makes me so happy to know that he is now living out his days on a beautiful farm in Cheshire getting the care he deserves.

'So many people overlook the older and middle-aged dogs at rescue centres but taking home an older dog can be the most rewarding thing.

'You might not get as many years with them but that short time means absolutely everything to that dog.'
