(February 2018) Maryland: Loose pit bull rips King Charles Cavalier Spaniel named Hank out of owner's arms and viciously mauls him

MARYLAND -- Hank, a handsome and lovable King Charles Cavalier Spaniel, 13 months old, was viciously attacked and mauled and nearly killed, by a uncontrolled pit bull mix dog, having been pulled out of Tony’s arms.

He was saved from bleeding to death by the hands of Tony pressing on the worst of the puncture wounds to stem the bleeding until reaching the emergency vet for surgery and repairs to the many punctures, including one in the lung, and broken rib.

The funds are needed to help pay for the enormous vet bills already incurred, with more to follow.  Hank is Jill and Tony’s, especially Tony, lovable pal.  He rides everywhere with them on a golf cart, saying hello to everyone with a wag and lick.  Please help them with these growing vet bills.

They are so grateful already for the outpouring of concern and caring from many who know them, and others who have just seen them smiling (Tony) and joyful wagging tail of Hank.  They wouldn’t do this request themselves, but we know the expense will be a burden on anyone, so we would hope all loving pet owners understand to give just a little.  Thank you to everyone in advance for all the support, prayers, and caring given to these devoted pet owners.

Update 1
I just want to thank everyone again for all the support given to Tony and Jill following the vicious attack on their beloved little pal, Hank. Thank you also for all the donations to go towards the large and climbing vet bill. Tony and Jill have been overwhelmed by everyone’s generosity.

Hank is doing better every day and has to be reminded that he has to continue to take it easy. He will be visiting the vet again later in the week to have his stitches removed. We will be giving another update after that visit. Thank you again on behalf of Tony and Jill and, of course, Hank.

Hi, everyone. This is Hank. I’m doing so much better now thanks to my wonderful veterinarian in Eustis, FL. I, along with my mommy and daddy (Jill and Tony), want to thank everyone who donated toward my vet bills, and most especially, for all the prayers and support given for me and my dad and mom.

Maryland: Men release Pit Bull to attack, kill cats in feral cat colony

MARYLAND -- On Feb 21, 2018,  Midnight a friendly colony cat was fed by his caretaker along with 4 other cats.

After the caretaker left, three men let their pit bull off its leash to attack the cats.  

Last year there were 13.  Now there are 5.  Three were found in the last few months dead and now they know how they were being killed.

The rest of the cats are needing trapped and rehomed to barns. This means there are vetting costs, food, litter, and transportation costs. There are another 4 cats fed very close to this location and we will rehome them too.

Just an update...Midnight has survived but is very sore. Yes this incident has been reported to Animal Control. Trapping of the left over cats will be this Saturday.

Last night 4 cats were trapped/removed as 2 of them were friendly. There is 1 very trap savy one left and then we saw 2 new comers. It was a little scary night as it wasn't the best of area.

We got to see the dog that killed 1 of the cats a few months ago. Nothing was said but it was a little tense as they walked by with their dog as it was on a leash this time.

Maryland: Schnauzer is euthanized after 'single mother with 2 kids' claims she can't afford to pay the vet bills after her Pit Bulls tore him apart

MARYLAND -- Towson, Maryland- On Friday 01/19/2018 around 7:40p-8:00p my wife and daughter were going on a regular nightly walk with our mini schnauzers Mackie and Rosie while I was on my way back home from work.

Shortly after their walk, two unleashed pit bulls approached them and attacked them. Neither my wife and daughter were bit. Except, for my wife some scratches to her body and soreness on her arms and body due to the struggle.

Unfortunately, our dog, Mackie is in bad condition with deep wounds from the bites that damaged his muscles and nerves and dislocated his hip with a 50% chance of full recovery.

Our dog was rushed to the Pet-Er and has been hospitalized since Friday night and his bill is already at $4,100. The owner of the pit bulls who is a single parent working two jobs and going to school has been paying Mackie's medical bills, however, we are trying to find other solutions to alleviate the costly treatment.

Am I supposed to feel sorry for this "single parent working two jobs and going to school"? SHE CHOSE TO HAVE NOT JUST ONE - BUT TWO PIT BULLS AS PETS AND IS 100% RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT HAS HAPPENED.

It is an unexpected expense that we didn't cause. We are asking for any monetary donations, so that we can continue our dog's treatment. Per the Pet-Er doctor Mackie will be required to stay hospitalized for a few more days to determine how serious his health condition is, which can cost at least $1,000 daily and further treatment for his wounds and hip.

The money not used will be donated forward to an animal rescue and care center which name will be announce on my Facebook with visuals of me giving a check to the rescue center and thanking everyone of you for your support.

Our dogs have been with us since puppies for about 7 years. They are part of our family and everyday life, growing together side by side with our children, who are 12 and 8 years old. Our dogs are the ones that when we come home are so excited to see us and they have been the most loyal to us.

We are a working family just like every American who is trying to make it. And we are in an unfortunate situation that is requiring the help of others. Every little bit that you can contribute from $1 or more if you can help. We will be forever grateful.

This incident has resulted with a hospitalization and treatment  that continues to get costly. Our dog has been hospitalized since Friday night and his bill is already at $4,100.

The owner of the pit bulls who is a single parent working two jobs and going to school has been paying Mackie's medical bills, however, we are trying to cooperate with each other and find solutions to alleviate the costly treatment.

Unfortunately Mackie was put to sleep today 01/23/2018 at 2:40p. We are heartbroken right now. Mackie needed 24/7 attention and neither the owner of the pit bulls nor us could afford it. He was in so much pain and it was hard seeing him like that. We had him since he was a puppy. The money collected was used to put him to sleep.

Maryland: Firefighter rescues Golden Retriever stuck in icy culvert

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MARYLAND --  The dog was shaking, tired, and covered in ice.

“Honestly, I would love to see him get back to his owner,” said Firefighter Jesse McCullough.

The Prince George’s County Fire Fighter and his team at Company 30 were called out to rescue the dog, who was stuck in a culvert.

  

 

“It was just icy concrete, so you just are not going to be able to climb out easily,” said McCullough.

The Prince George’s County firefighter picked up the frozen pooch and carried him to safety.

“I basically had him resting on my knee and then coming up the beams of the ladder, just taking a rung stepping up. You know, your legs can lift a lot more than your arms ever can,” said McCullough.

Company 30 put the dog in the back of the fire truck and cranked up the heat. When they got back to the fire station, the firefighters laid out a bed, food and water.

 

The Golden Retriever did not have a collar or a working microchip, so McCullough is hoping the dog’s owner is reading this story.

If not, McCullough is not ruling out adopting the dog, which Company 30 appropriately named “River.”

“It’s an option. I have to talk to my wife and three-year old,” laughed McCullough.

Earlier today while my mom was dog sitting my dog was attacked by a Pit Bull today December 1, 2017 between 3:00pm and 345 on Montford and McElderry.

The dog ran out in grabbed him and because he was scared he ran off. So please please please if anyone see him bring him home.

He is injured, but I’m unsure how badly. My heart is broken and the only thing I️ want is to bring him home to me.

So sad my precious boy Thunder got attacked yesterday by a pit bull, he's not doing to good and will probably need surgery on his left ear and jaw, my dad was also bitten. I'm so beside my self with this because I'm such a animal lover and have own pits, never had a problem but this one Really tried to kill my dog.

 

The owner is a single mother with two small children, do I don't want the medical bills to fall on her but now my dog is quarantined for 10 days and scared of every little noise. It has sure made me rethink things cause if it had been a smaller dog if child it would of killed them cause this dog just wouldn't stop.

I'm so sad today my precious boy Thunder was attacked by a pit bull yesterday morning walking with my dad. He's in bad shape, he's probably going to need surgery on his left ear and jaw. This has me so upset because I'm such a animal lover and have own pits but after this, it sure is making me rethink some things. My poor baby Thunder was attacked yesterday when my dad took him for a walk. My dad was also bitten. But it kills me cause I'm such a animal lover and he was attacked by a pit bull.

My dogs left ear and jaw are in bad shape all kinds of med. Limping around and scared of every noise being made. I've owned pits in my time with never any problem but it sure makes me feel a little different now cause that dog was trying to kill my boy. He 60 pounds. and I'm telling you if he'been a small dog or child they'd be dead. That dog just wasn't stopping!!! Very Scary!! My poor baby just out taking his morning walk,now he's not aloud to leave his yard for 10 days. I think I might like that idea anyway,I scared now for him!!

MARYLAND -- Emergency crews are on the scene at North Essex Drive, where a child was bitten in the face by a dog. The child is reported to be around 2-3 years old.

Animal control removed a red colored dog from the residence.

Maryland: City workers and animal control officer come together to rescue baby bunny from storm drain

MARYLAND -- Frederick County Animal Control officers are used to rescuing wildlife from storm drains, but the call they received Friday afternoon was somewhat unusual, said Sgt. Dave Luckenbaugh.

“Typically, when we get these calls ... it’s baby ducks; the mom will walk right over the grate and the little ducklings will slip through and get trapped,” Luckenbaugh said. “And we usually tend to get most of those during the spring. By now, they’re usually too big to fall through.”

That said, Officer Robert Uttermohlen may have been a bit surprised when emergency dispatchers sent him to rescue a baby rabbit from a drain near the Panera Bread on Kingfisher Drive at about 1:30 p.m. Friday.

With a bit of help from city Department of Public Works employees, Uttermohlen was able to scoop the frightened animal up and out of danger and reunite it with two other juvenile rabbits that were found nearby, Luckenbaugh said.

All three rabbits were quickly taken to a more remote area and released, but not before several passers-by noticed the commotion, including Richard Griffin, the city’s director of economic development, who had stopped by the shopping center to eat lunch.

“He was the tiniest little wet thing you’ve ever seen in your life,” Griffin said with a laugh. “It was lovely. There were some people standing around watching, so when the rabbit came out and started hopping around, a little cheer went up.”

Maryland: James Huckaby, 37, killed his dog after dragging it around a Walmart parking lot while it was dying from heat exhaustion

MARYLAND -- A Glen Burnie man was arrested Wednesday on charges of animal cruelty, and possession of heroin and paraphernalia.

Passers-by called police when they saw a man "passed out or sleeping" in his pickup truck outside the Walmart at 407 George Clauss Blvd. in Severn, Anne Arundel County Police said. A distressed dog was in the back seat.

Police said they responded to find James Huckaby (aka James Rufus Huckaby Sr.), 37, dragging his bulldog by the leash across the parking lot.

Huckaby told police he fell asleep while waiting to pick his friend up from work, police said.

Upon searching his silver Nissan Titan officers found five clear capsules of suspected heroin, two cut straws with white-powder residue, which were believed to be used for snorting heroin, police said.

Police said they called Animal Control officers because they believed the bulldog, called Diesel, was suffering from dehydration and heat exhaustion. 

When Animal Control arrived they saw the dog collapse after stumbling in an attempt to stand, police said.

Animal Control transported Diesel to an emergency veterinary clinic where, police said, the veterinarian recommended the dog be euthanized because of the "rapid deterioration of the dog's health and the poor prognosis."

Huckaby was released Thursday after a bail review.

ADDITIONAL CHARGES FILED

Visitors and volunteers at the Anne Arundel County Animal Control Facility in Millersville said Friday that they saw a man arrive in a silver Nissan Titan truck and overheard him talking on his cellphone "saying several times that he was going to kill police officers for shooting his dog," police said.

The visitors and volunteers ran inside the building, locked the doors and called police.

Huckaby fled before officers arrived, police said.

Police officers were able to identify him and located him at his residence in Glen Burnie. He was arrested him without incident on charges of threats of violence, disturbing the peace and disorderly conduct, police said.

Huckaby was still in custody pending a bail review Monday. Neither he nor a representative could be reached for comment before the hearing.

Maryland: Christina Thornhill claims it's no big deal that Deedra Hager hit a customer's dog with a wiffle ball bat. However, I guarantee that if that were my dog I would go HAM on them

MARYLAND -- A pet salon in Salisbury has come under recent scrutiny after a video went viral showing  a dog being hit with a wiffle ball bat.

The video, which was viewed over 150,000 times before being deleted Friday morning, showed Deedra Hager hitting a dog with a plastic bat as a form of punishment.

 

  

"I've been reflecting it in a more positive way," says Hager. "I mean, people are going to think what they're going to think anyway, and I know I have done nothing wrong, so I have nothing to feel guilty for."

Regardless of whether it falls under the legal definition of animal abuse or not, a smart business owner would not get on TV and behave so snotty. Deedra Hager's smirking face is irritating. 

 

 

The family who owns the business, says that this is a common practice.

"The correction method that we use is a 2-tap on the butt and a redirect. We use a plastic, hollow wiffle ball bat that was rated to be used with children ages two to five," says Christina Thornhill, manager of the Salon. "The employee didn't do anything wrong.. she did her job. She stopped what could have been a fatal fight."

Why don't you ask the dog owner what they thought of Deedra smacking their dog? Would you be happy if this were your dog? I can see her tapping the dog to get its attention and re-direct it to stop a potential fight between dogs, but I don't like how they're trying to minimize it. If this wiffle ball bat is for "ages 2-5", would you be OK with seeing your babysitter smacking your 3-year-old child with it?

The video was shot from the window of a neighboring business, and on Friday, 47 ABC reached out to the woman who shot and posted the video, but her and her place of employment declined to comment.

 

The pet salon says this isn't the first time they've had a run in with that business. According to them, that same business had called animal control on them 2 years ago. but they say animal control found no wrongdoing.

Um, no. I doubt that. Likely they couldn't prove that the dog being beaten suffered any physical injuries, which is typically required for a cruelty charge. Just because your babysitter doesn't leave bruises on your kid doesn't mean your kid isn't being abused by him/her.

Since the video went up, the family says they've received death threats and negative comments, making them worry about the future of their business.

"My fear is that whenever someone wants to Google us, Yelp us, Facebook us (reviews), it just pops up animal abusers with no just cause, says Thornhill. "If you have walked through our doors, and met our animals they're happy."

47ABC reached out to multiple pet trainers around the region trainers in the region to see if this method of training was common practice and all declined to comment on the matter as well.

Maryland: Little girl attacked in the face by a Pit Bull at the Courtyard Inn Motel

MARYLAND -- On june 20,2017 my daughter miracle was attacked by a pit bull at courtyard inn motel in Chestertown, Maryland.

She has to get rabies shots in her face and thighs for a month,she is on antibiotics twice a day, and prescription motrin every six hours.

Miracle now sees a plastic surgeon, her primary doctor, a psychiatrist for ptsd, and the er doctor for her rabies shot day.
