Woman attacked by pit bull she was trying to 're-home'

PENNSYLVANIA --  A 44-year-old Dauphin County woman is recovering after being attacked by a dog she rescued.

Lyn Wilheim and a friend found the bull dog mix last week off of 322 in Middle Paxton Township, Dauphin County.

[Earlier reports call it a pit bull mix. Another article says a 'friend' of the victim says it's an American Bulldog mix. Y'know what I say? WHAT-EVER! A pig is a pig is a pig.]

Jess Blough who was aiding the search for a new family for the pooch said the dog was, “Abused, neglected and malnourished” when it was found.

On Wednesday, Wilheim took the dog to Boyd Big Tree Conservation Preserve in northern Dauphin County to potentially meet a new family.

But after minutes after arriving, the dog went wild and attacked Wilheim, severely biting both arms.

Police on park property heard the attack and aided in the rescue said Blough.

“They first tried to get the dog off with a baton but couldn’t’ and shot him,” added Blough.

Due to the severity of Wilheim’s injuries, she was taken to Harrisburg Hospital but later transferred to Hershey Medical Center.

Speaking to Wilheim’s family by phone on Thursday, we are told she is resting well and may receive plastic surgery. Additionally as a precaution, she is receiving rabies shots.

“She was doing the right thing,” said Blough.  “She reached out to help the dog and this is how it ended.”

[Hmm, I don't know how much sympathy I have for this woman. She chose to take a pit bull into her home and try to find it a home. What about that beagle mix at the shelter? What about the collie mix that can't find a home? Of all the MILLIONS of dogs needing to be fostered and found a good home, she picked a pit bull. Well, we all make our own choices and she made hers and now she has to live with it.]
