7-year-old girl attacked by pack of dogs in Orange County

FLORIDA -- A 7-year-old girl was taken to the hospital after she was viciously attacked by five dogs Tuesday evening in Orange County.

Animal Services and the sheriff’s office are both investigating the case at 9602 11th Ave. in the Taft neighborhood.

On a scale of one to 10 in describing the severity of the injuries, neighbor Darryl Lawrence said, “I’d say at least a six or a seven. I would say probably closer to a seven.”

The girl was taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children Tuesday night.

”She had a three-inch laceration under her arm, a couple real bad bites on her back, and some small bites on her face and on her shoulder," Lawrence described. "She was bleeding out of her leg, too, but I couldn’t see what type of bite she had on her leg.”

When the Orange County Animal Services officer arrived, she called for backup because the incident involved five dogs.

Two trucks were used to take the dogs away.

The dogs’ owner said they were all a black Labrador-husky mix.

He said the dogs weigh at least 85 pounds, and four of the five are 10-month-old puppies.

A handwritten “Beware of Dog” sign was posted in the yard.

Neighbors said it all happened when the 7-year-old girl was playing with another child.

“From my understanding, there’s a 4-year-old that lives at the house. The 4-year-old let the 7-year-old in and the dogs attacked her,” Lawrence said.

Neighbors said it took three men to pull the dogs off the little girl. Investigators took photographs of one man’s leg where he had been bitten in the scuffle.
