Foal rescued from Peterborough river

UNITED KINGDOM -- Crews from Stanground and Dogsthorpe and a rescue vehicle from Dogsthorpe were called to the body of water near Wessex Close, Stanground.

A foal was trapped in a river near Stanground Lock Gate and had been spotted by a fisherman.

Specially trained firefighters used animal rescue techniques to rescue the animal and had returned to their stations by 1.40pm.

Station Commander Paul Clarke said: “Our crews worked closely with the attending vet to rescue the animal and return it to safety.

“Members of the public did the right thing in not entering the water and calling the Fire Service to deal with the incident.”
