Attacking dog stabbed by owner, killed by police

OHIO -- A pit bull was stabbed by its owner and shot by police after the dog allegedly bit its owners.

After arriving at the 3300 block of Livingston Avenue about 6 a.m. Tuesday, police found an injured Stephanie Nau, 34, who told them that her pit bull had attacked her boyfriend, Adrian Alexander, 40. When she tried to help Alexander, the dog bit her.

Police talked to Alexande,r who was also injured. He corroborated Nau’s story and said that he was standing in the living room earlier in the morning when the dog lunged and started to bite him, according to the police report.

Nau ran into the room and grabbed the dog’s collar and the pit bull turned on Nau, biting and latching onto her wrist, according to the report.

Alexander told police that he pulled at the dog and stabbed it with a kitchen knife in an attempt to help his girlfriend.

Eventually the dog let go and ran outside. Police tried to restrain the dog when they arrived, but it lunged at officers and was fatally shot by police, according to the report.

Alexander told officers the incident was not the first time his dog had turned on him, the report stated.

Tuesday’s incident was the second time this week that a dog has been shot by police after an alleged attack. On Monday, a dog attacked his owner, a 9-year-old boy and the child’s Labrador retriever and was shot and killed by Lorain police.
