Bryan believes it was her neighbors’ Pit Bulls, who are often seen roaming the streets, that mauled her horse.
“We have had him since my daughter was two. It was really our first pony for them. He was amazing,” Bryan said.
Bryan also believes Mr. Big Ed did not go down without a fight.
“They are hurt,” she said, referring to the Pit Bulls. “My dad says one could not even lift his head he was just laying there.”
Sutter Animal Services, who are investigating the incident, said dog tracks were found near the deceased animal, but could not determine if they belonged to other dogs living on Bryan’s family’s property.
Animal services is now examining a dark substance they found on the Pit Bulls’ coats.
“We took samples of their fur because we want to see if it comes back equine blood. Because we had the rain for several days it really could very easily be mud,” Shelter Manager Diana Barrett said.
FOX40 tried reaching out to the dogs owners, but they were unavailable for comment.
Relatives of the Pit Bulls’ owners say they never had an issue with the dogs in the past.

Still, they argue Pit Bulls can be unpredictable.
“You know how those Pit Bulls are. They are aggressive dogs. You can not trust them,” Alex Garcia said.
Animal Services searched the dog owners’ property Thursday for a possible third Pit Bull after getting complaints, but their search came up empty.
Investigators are also going to test the Pit Bulls’ fecal matter for any bones or hair before making any decisions on putting the dogs down.
They say they do not want to make any speculations at this time.
