UTAH -- Police are looking for a Price man and woman who skipped court on animal cruelty charges after their puppy was found with a black, infected leg and possible burns to its nose and back.
The woman also is wanted on allegations that she killed a chihuahua by throwing it across the room, said Carbon County Attorney Gene Strate on Thursday.
Thor, a hound-mix puppy, was less than two months old when its owners took him to a veterinarian in January, Strate said.
Thor’s foot "was black in color, severely infected, with skin sloughing off," the vet reported to investigators. The vet amputated the leg and noticed the puppy’s nose and whiskers appeared to be burned and a patch of fur was missing from his back.
The dog also was malnourished, the vet reported.
Thor was removed from the couple and has been adopted by another local family, Strate said.
In the course of the investigation, detectives also learned of the Chihuahua, named False, that died in the couple’s care sometime between October and December.
The woman admitted to throwing the Chihuahua onto a couch and said he bounced off the couch onto a nearby table, Strate said. False died about two days later.
The man, 26, and woman, 23, both failed to appear in court in April on third-degree felony charges of aggravated animal cruelty.
Seventh District Court judges have issued $5,000 warrants in each case.
