Just because the air conditioner is left running doesn't mean it'll keep running

FLORIDA -- A dog that died after being left in a hot car for 13 hours led to animal cruelty charges for a woman who appeared to have mental issues.

Police say the woman told them she had a head injury that causes her to forget things.

She says she forgot the dog was in the car that she had left running with the air conditioning on while she wandered in a Walmart.

An officer checked on the dog after calls from other shoppers but had determined the dog was fine in the air conditioned car.

After more calls from passers-by, police checked again and found the air conditioner in the SUV had stopped circulating and the dog was dead.
