Uniontown man accused of shooting dog in fight over cell phone

WEST VIRGINIA -- A Fayette County man is accused of shooting a dog during a dispute over a cellphone.

Christian Palm, 21, of Uniontown, is charged by city police with simple assault, reckless endangerment, terroristic threats, criminal trespass and animal cruelty.

In a criminal complaint, Officer Eric Hanula said Palm and several unidentified persons entered a house on Coolspring Street at 12:57 a.m. Wednesday.

A resident, Stephen Guziak, told police Palm waved a gun around, pointed it at him and threatened to shoot him if he did not give Palm money he was owed for a cell phone.

Palm and the others left the house via a rear door, “at which time he (Guziak) observed Palm fire the gun, shooting his dog once in the area of the head. Guziak related that the dog yelped and began bleeding heavily.”

When police arrived, they found the dog, a pit bull, chained in the back yard, on the ground, “bleeding heavily from the neck,” the complaint said.

Guziak took the dog to Cheat Lake Animal Hospital near Morgantown, W.Va., where a veterinarian told police it was shot just below the right eye and was in critical condition.
