Updated with photos: Two Yorkies killed after attack by pit bulls in Deltona

FLORIDA -- Two Yorkshire terriers died after being attacked by two pit bulls in Deltona on Thursday, according to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office..

Shirley Farina told deputies she heard one of her dog's yelping after she let them out of her home in the 1100 block of Brickell Drive.

Farina, 70, went outside and saw her neighbor's pit bulls attacking her two Yorkies. She was able to grab the dogs away. When she did, the pit bulls started attacking her.

A neighbor came and started throwing rocks to distract the dogs. They eventually stopped attacking her, and she went inside to tend to her badly injured Yorkies.

Neighbor and retired police officer, Jeff Lamey, ran and got his gun but
wasn't able to get a clear shot because the dogs were on top of her

But they died shortly after, deputy sheriff's said.

"I've had them since they were babies and they were the love of my life," Farina told Fox 35 about her Yorkies, Caley and Casper.

Farina suffered several injuries to her left arm, right hand and neck.

Sheriff's deputies responded to the scene and confronted the owners of the pit bulls.

The owner, Demetira Brewer, refused to give her name or date of birth to deputies. She also started yelling that her boyfriend also didn't have to give his name to them, and ignored commands to leave the area.

The 24-year-old was arrested on a charge of resisting an officer without violence.

She was taken to the Volusia County Jail but has since bonded out.
