Dog left in hot car outside Padre Hotel

CALIFORNIA -- Bakersfield Police responded to a call of a dog left in a car around 8:30 p.m Friday evening.

BPD says the owner of the dog left the animal in the car for more than an hour, before patrons of the Padre Hotel called police to report the activity.

Temperatures reached nearly 100 degrees on Friday in Bakersfield. According to online resources on a 90-degree day, the interior temperature of a car can reach as high as 160 degrees in less than 10 minutes.

Bakersfield Police tell 23 ABC that the dog has been taken to a shelter, and the owner was cited.
