Colorado: Crystal McIntosh, 34, charged with seven counts of animal cruelty

COLORADO -- A woman from Fountain was charged with seven counts of animal cruelty when police were dispatched to her home to investigate a suspicious incident call for service.

According to police, on Feb. 6 around 3:10 p.m., officers were sent to 1446 Bonita Dr.

Sgt. Brian Pearson with Fountain Police Department said, “The reporting person advised officers that there were numerous broken windows on the house and they could hear dogs barking coming from the inside.”

Through the window, officers could see a large amount of dog feces covering the living room floor.

“Three large pit bulls came up into the front window of the house at that time officers looked inside of the house and they noted that the interior of the house was not suitable for the dogs that were living in there,” said Pearson.

They also could see no outdoor access for the dogs.

An officer then contacted the Humane Society who informed him that they have an active case for animal cruelty against 34-year-old Crystal McIntosh.

Officers applied for and received a search warrant for the residence. The Humane Society then took control of four pit bulls, three of which were emaciated, and three dead turtles.

FOX21 spoke with the next door neighbor who said she had called the Humane Society about the dogs multiple times. According to her, one day the pit bulls somehow got loose, mauling and killing her family’s dog. Police say if you think there’s even a chance of animal abuse or neglect happening to always alert them.

“We’ll assign an officer to go out and determine if there really is a criminal offense or if this just happened to be one of those incidents where you know the dog may have tipped over his water or something like that,” said Pearson. “We just check to see if the dog or the cat, animals are properly taken care of.”

McIntosh arrived on scene and told officers she and her family had moved out around three months ago. The water was turned off on Jan. 26 and the electricity on Feb. 1.

McIntosh was placed into custody and charged with seven counts of aggravated animal cruelty.
