Ohio: Bobbie Green, 70, and Leon Morton, 49, indicted in Shaker Heights dog attack that killed 71-year-old woman

OHIO -- A woman and her son are facing charges in connection with a pit bull attack in Shaker Heights that killed their relative.

An indictment handed down Tuesday in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court charges Bobbie J. Green and Leon Morton in the death of 71-year-old Annie L. Williams.

Green, 70, and Morton, 49, face two counts of involuntary manslaughter and one count of reckless homicide.

Morton is scheduled for an arraignment at 8:30 a.m. Friday. Green's first court appearance is set for 8:30 a.m. March 8.

The pair caused Williams' death by violating a Shaker Heights codified ordinance that requires dog owners to get licenses and to constrain their pets with a leash or a secured enclosure, the indictment says.

 

Williams was visiting Green and Morton at their home on the 3600 block of Pennington Road when she was attacked, court documents show. The dog mauled her as she got out of her car in the driveway.

Williams tried to run, but she fell in the front yard, officials said. The dog bit her head and neck.

Williams died after she was taken to University Hospitals Ahuja Medical Center.

Neighbors told cleveland.com that they tried to save Williams. One neighbor shot the dog and injured it.
