OKLAHOMA -- A Duncan woman is wanted on animal cruelty after deputies say they gave her plenty of chances to tend to a horse under her care that allegedly died of neglect.
Tonia Lucille Evans, 48, is wanted on an arrest warrant charging her with animal cruelty, a felony.
According to police reports, on Dec. 21, deputies with the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office received information about a horse in poor health, neglected, down and dying on the 5900 block of South 13th Street.
Once at the scene, deputies asked Evans if a vet had seen the horse to try to save it or put it down when they contacted her in August and she responded “no,” the report stated.
The report stated deputies saw the horse lying on the ground in its own vomit and unable to stand. Deputies called a vet to care for the horse, but the horse perished before help arrived.
Deputies noted on their report giving Evans more than four months to care for the horse and asked for animal cruelty charges to be filed against her.
The arrest warrant was filed Feb. 24.
