California: Stray deer rescued in Riverside will live at animal sanctuary

CALIFORNIA -- A Riverside County Animal Services officer retrieved a stray deer in Jurupa Valley Sept. 20, 2016.

The deer appeared to be very domesticated.

Officer Will Luna brought the deer to the Western Riverside County/City Animal Shelter and contacted a state Fish & Wildlife warden to make arrangements for the animal's transfer to a sanctuary.

The deer was located along Limonite Avenue, between Wineville and Lucretia avenues. The deputy was able to tie the very domesticated deer to his cruiser until Riverside County Animal Services Officer Will Luna arrived.

Officer Luna retrieved the deer and transported her (they think it's female) to the Western Riverside County/City Animal Shelter in Jurupa Valley. The deer was placed inside securely inside the shelter's barn. It's very likely someone was keeping the deer as a pet illegally.

Officer Luna contacted a state Fish & Wildlife warden to make arrangements for the deer's next stop. It's likely she will be taken to a sanctuary to live out the rest of her life.

Officer Luna immediately provided the deer some water because, he said, the deer seemed a bit exhausted and dehydrated.
