Florida: Nathanael Carman, 19, charged with home invasion, animal cruelty after breaking into home and shooting their dog

FLORIDA -- Palm Beach County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a 19-year-old man who allegedly broke into a home west of Loxahatchee Groves and shot the family’s dog.

Nathanael Carman faces one count of home invasion with a firearm, one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one count of animal cruelty in connection to the Jan. 6 break-in, according to the arrest report.

Jaxon, the pit bull mix who was shot, underwent successfully surgery and is recovering at home after a Good Samaritan donated $1,700 to cover medical costs.

Carman entered the back door of the home early in the morning, the report said. Just after he entered, he allegedly shot the dog as the four people in the house woke up. Jaxon suffered multiple skull and jaw fractures and the loss of an eye.

A woman in the master bedroom said she saw another man, but the other two victims only saw Carman, who they said they have met, the report said. Carman used to come over to the house on occasion, but they hadn’t seen him in about six months.

When they saw Carman with the gun, a man barricaded himself and a woman in the bedroom, but Carman fired multiple shots into the door, kicking his way in, the report said. Carman was demanding “electronics, TVs, money and other items.”

The man and an unknown witness who refused to cooperate with law enforcement wrestled the gun away from Carman, who then ran away.

After the incident, the woman in the room started suffering abdominal pains and was transported to Palms West Hospital for treatment. The people in the home were not otherwise injured.

Carman is being held in Palm Beach County Jail without the possibility of bond on the home invasion charge and a total of $150,000 bond on the other two charges.

Our dog Jaxon is suffering at the vet right now with a gun shot to his eye. Last night my family's home was part of a home invasion and a man tried to kill everyone in the home, luckily everyone made it out alive EXCEPT for our dog who was the first one to try to stop this intruder. The vet says they could save him but they want 1,700$ to do it and 1,000$ to start. Right now we are going through a foreclosure and have little to a few dollars to our name. I don't even know if this is worth the time, all I know is I want my doggy saved.

Update #1:
We found out if we can get the surgery done he will only have lost an eye.

Thank you to all the people who have been sharing and donating.

Update #2:
An angel paid for the entire bill directly to the vet, I'll be using the go fund me money to repay her
