Florida: Jacob Powell, 33, accused of killing kitten in front of child during domestic battery incident

FLORIDA -- A Florida man was arrested after he battered a woman, killed her kitten and threw her phone in the toilet, police said.

Jacob Powell, 33, of Spring Hill, was allegedly intoxicated and angry around 1am early Sunday morning when he got into an argument with Alysia Loder, according to WTVT.

Powell allegedly struck Loder’s head against a closet and pushing her to the floor. He's also accused of grabbing Loder by the wrists and ankles while she was trying to get away from him, scratching her and causing further injury.

He has also been accused of killing Loder’s 9-week-old kitten, Rajah.

Powell denied killing the cat after he was taken into custody, but Loder and her children told deputies that when she asked him what he did to the kitten, he responded, “I was pissed off, so I killed her.”

Loder tried to call 911, but Powell broke her phone and threw it in the toilet, which police say he later admitted to doing.

All of this happened in front of Loder’s daughter, WFTS reported.

Powell fled the home in a rented car following the incident, but was later stopped by deputies and taken into custody when he circled back and drove by the home later.

Powell was charged with domestic battery, witness tampering and animal cruelty.
