The charges are in connection with the death last week of a small Bichon Frise dog at an Acoma Lane home.
Leslie Sherman contacted Los Alamos County Animal Shelter Manager Victoria Murphy Monday to notify her that the dogs in a photo published in the Los Alamos Daily Post were hers.
Note: Possible other names Leslie Borrego, Leslie Sherman Borrego.
Aragon’s statement says he provided information to Deputy Police Chief Jason Wardlow Herrera for a press release to help identify the dog. The LAPD public information officer issued a news release stating that LAPD police and animal control officers had searched the area and advised the public to use caution as it was not known if the two dogs were aggressive toward humans.
The news release resulted in someone contacting LAPD with a photo of two roaming dogs taken in February that appeared to be menacing a dog through a fence, and were possibly the dogs sought by police. After the family said they believe those were the dogs involved in the deadly attack, LAPD released the photo to local newspapers.
Aragon also filed an affidavit to seize Sherman’s dogs, which are now in the care and custody of the animal shelter.
