South Carolina: Women rescue Doberman found with mouth duct taped shut

SOUTH CAROLINA -- Lexington authorities are investigating after a dog was found with its mouth taped shut.

A concerned citizen noticed the dog living in what she called 'cruel conditions', took several photos, and asked for the community's help on her Facebook page.

In part, the woman wrote "Help! Who can we call about this baby? He has tape around his mouth and face! When he was out of the fence we tried calling him over to help but he seemed so scared!"

The post was shared with multiple people, including a woman who took immediate action and rescued the dog with a friend.

The women posted a video of the rescue on Facebook, showing the dog they've named 'Tank'. They say he struggled to breathe while they rushed him to Animal Control to get help.

The Good Samaritans say they are thankful someone spoke up so that the person who did the act can be brought to justice. They also added that the case is a reminder that animal cruelty needs to be reported.

It is unclear how long the dog had been living in hard conditions.

Tank is recovering at Lexington Animal Control. He could not be visited Monday because authorities say the dog is considered evidence in their investigation.

According to the latest numbers from the Humane Society of the U.S., South Carolina ranks 43rd on a list of the most humane states in the country.
