Virginia: Corey Epps, 39, is accused of taking his family's dog and killing it

VIRGINIA -- Salem police have made an arrest in an animal cruelty case.

On Monday afternoon officers responded to a call about a man who was reportedly abusing an animal.

When they arrived they found Corey Epps with blood on his hands and clothes. Shortly after they found a dead dog nearby with visible injuries.

Authorities determined the dog belonged to Epps's family, and that he had taken the animal after making threats toward them.

Epps, 39, was charged with several felonies including animal cruelty and threats to kill a family member.

He's being held at the Roanoke County/Salem Jail without bond.

The incident is still being investigated.
