The pair went for a walk near East Roswell Park, but around 6:50 a.m. they were attacked by two pit bulls, according to a police report.
The pit bulls attacked Ellie — a small 5-year-old Bichon Frise — and Stewart tried to fight them off.
Stewart suffered injuries to his hands, knees and arms. Ellie was killed by the pit bulls.
Fulton County Animal Control located and seized the two pit bulls, but as of Thursday, it and police are still trying to locate the owners. Fulton County Animal Control will cite the owners once they are located, police said.
Ooh a citation. Yeah, that'll really make a difference. Pay a $100 fine and they get to keep their maulers. Even if they surrender them, they'll go right out and get two more. What's the shampoo bottle say? Wash, rinse, repeat. This is how it is when there are not criminal laws to make people accountable for these horrific attacks and deaths.
One pit bull was brown and one was grey, police said. Both had leashes hanging from them.
When reached by the AJC, Stewart didn’t want to comment on the incident and investigation at this time, but he did submit photos. Stewart was able to snap a photo of the two pit bulls walking away from the scene. The photo has pink tint to it, he said, because his phone was covered in he and Ellie’s blood.
The police report states that two men witnessed the attack and struck one of the pit bulls with a piece of metal in an attempt to get Ellie and Stewart free.
Stewart was treated for his injuries at the North Fulton Hospital. Ellie was cremated.
