TEXAS -- Jefferson County deputies and Texas game wardens are trying to determine what attacked a horse in Port Arthur.
The horse’s owner, a former Port Arthur city councilman, says his horse Dakota was attacked late last night or early this morning.
The horse has several fresh scratches and a large wound on its rear end.
A Jefferson County wildlife deputy says it's possible that a mountain lion attacked the horse.
The wildlife deputy checked the property and couldn't find anything else that would explain the horse’s injuries.
The deputy says he’s received reports of large cats in that area.
The owner has a veterinarian coming to check out the horse.
