New York: Police say Joann Ponzo left her Chihuahua named Sunny to suffer with a broken pelvis after she was hit by a car

NEW YORK -- A Buffalo woman is facing animal cruelty charges after postponing treatment for her dog who was hit by a car earlier in the week.

The SPCA serving Erie County received a report that "Sunny", a young Chihuahua belonging to Joann Ponzo of Warren Avenue, had been hit by a vehicle and was unable to use his back legs.

The report claimed the dog was not receiving veterinary treatment for his injuries.

Following up on the report cruelty investigator Chelsa Wlodarczyk brought "Sunny" to the SPCA on Harlem Road where X-rays showed he had a broken pelvis.

The dog remains at the SPCA but was not surrendered to the organization.

Ponzo will be appearing in Buffalo City Court on Thursday, September 14th.
