Massachusetts: 'Violent, extremely aggressive' pit bull attacks police in Amesbury

MASSACHUSETTS -- A pit bull attack prompted police to issue an urgent warning in Amesbury.

Police said a “violent and extremely aggressive” brown pit bull attacked a sergeant Sunday morning in the area of Whitehall Road.

The sergeant and another officer were responding to a medical call when the Pit Bull ran out of the house and went after the sergeant.

The other officer shot the dog with a Taser, but the pit bull was able to escape. The dog was last seen heading towards Friend Street.

Amesbury residents near the Whitehall Lake Drive Condos, Barbara Drive, Pamela Lane and Unicorn Circle areas off of Whitehall Road are asked to stay in their homes until the dog has been found and caught.

Woodson Farm was temporarily closed as a precaution, police said.

The dog is considered dangerous and police are advising people to not approach the pit bull. If you spot the pit bull, contact police at 978-388-1212.
