Lehi man confessed to poisoning neighbors' Weimaraner

UTAH -- A Lehi man is facing possible animal cruelty charges after confessing to poisoning his neighbors' dog.

Police spoke to residents in the Lehi neighborhood after one dog, a Weimaraner, died last week and a second became very ill.

Bart Adams, 47, told police Sunday that he poisoned the Weimaraner, Lehi police Sgt. Jeff Swenson said.

"We talked to (Adams) and we got a confession that he did intentionally poison the one dog that died," Swenson said. "We're still waiting on some lab results to come back on the second dog."

Adams lives between the two houses where the dogs were allegedly poisoned, Swenson said.

A veterinarian who treated the dogs believes they may have been fed Strychnine, a poison used to kill rodents. Both dogs, who belong to two different Lehi families, began experiencing seizures at about the same time on July 1.

Police want to corroborate a substance taken from Adams' possession with the poison found in the deceased Weimaraner's body, Swenson said.

Adams faces a potential class A misdemeanor charge for animal cruelty, Swenson said. The case is being forwarded to the Utah County District Attorney's office.
